Lock it, get it over with. It doesn't belong here. This wasn't worth the 50 posts if it's not even the right board, nonetheless the wrong forum.

wow, jerk-wads

anyway

i thought i remember reading that you won some sort of contest, which is why your a 'staff' member for the RC peps...i havn't posted on the gamespace forms in a long time

though u raise a good point, lot of the peps bashing don't have anything to show. no it's not a contest, it's a matter of principle.

i honestly think there should be a gamespace board, considering we have other boards for the 3d modelers sold through tgc. probably be the best place for the thread if they had to move it

not sure how this would be an ad either, considering rc is free, last time i checked, and is very limited in terms of what type of game you can create. it's a lot more work in the end, in terms of building a final product and setting up the servers necessary to run it..then you have your updates, bug fixes, and high maintence that goes into a MMO. through the eyes of the smart one, DBP is a better choice i creating an app, lol

anyway, keep up the work, looks good

JoshM

edit: lol, took a look at the AUP, and the WIP rules...and i challenge you to find a rule that says she can't post this here

I'm moving this to the Programming Talk section as that is more appropriate. While it's not DBP, the Programming Talk is a section for all languages(including Blitz, VB, etc.).

As long as Eagle is a supporter of TGC by purchasing the products and putting them to use, then that's fine with me.

@Raven -
You're quoting the AUP? You're on noob slap you twit. Plus, you've never even made a game.

@Vickie -
Do you have videos of your game? Youtube is such a fantastic way to show off a game. I am curious to see various aspects of RC, especially combat and magic. One thing that I didn't care too much for was the limited particle system, the particle waterfall displeased me

after i read this earlier, felt that providing you with something i'm working on right now wouldn't give you the best idea on what i ment. mainly given my current project has a very cartoon-cute feel.. so everything is more stylised that would be helpful.

so what felt was best, was to take something you've original concepted and build that up with the features i'm talking about.
will upload a few things, concept / render / demo app / podcast about what i've done to achieve what i did.

should help more people that way. ^_^

if you say so raven, I'm sure with your vast game making experience you will be able to make something really fast, better yet maybe you can flag Jeku or bend over for him (whatever it is you do for him) and he will help you. Till then how bout you stay out of this post and go back to your brag-fest on the showcase forum where you can sit around and talk about making a game for the next 10 years..LOL!? In then mean time I will finish this one and start my next one with DB Pro~

How much of the character modeling did you do yourself?

i'm not sure RC is capable of 'standard' industry graphics anyway, because it uses an older form of DirectX.

standard single player game, no. But standard mmorpg graphics....probably yes. Just take a look at WoW, the graphics r quite simple, its just the texture and the model style that brings it to life. mmorpg aint alll about graphics, its more focus on gameplay rather than graphics.

the proj look good as usual =]

thanks Shadow heart,
ok, to answer your question this game is just a hobby project, I will give it away to the RC community when I am finished and make all the code and models avalable for download. I just make games as a hobby right now and mostly what I get paid for is making models for other peoples games or levels for someone elses creation. But the more I do the more people get to know my name and its not just because I'm a girl! I really have a nack for doing this stuff, I don't know why~

anyway, thanks for the nice comments, I was beginning to think there was no love here.. LOL!

to argue the WOW point, unlike other MMO's that came out around the same time, blizz made wow so everyone could play, i even have it installed on my 800mhz comp, and it works pretty well. If you look closely at the game, you'll realize how well they implement textures, most of the objects and images you see are optical illusions. Wow also uses a lot of shaders, so I consider it industry standard. i was just stating that i dont think RC has support for shaders and other DX9+ features.

my site is up and running, you need to be able to run java scripts to see it. If you can't then you must be using IE so all you have to do is turn on support for java or use firefox
Other games I have made include MegaMash, Pod Pit and Lufor (the final Battle Online) and I have a 3D version of Lufor in planning now, I think I am going to use DBPro for it if not I will use the Torque engine.
(here is a screen shot of Lufor)

you see Lufor is a 2D MMORPG game I made with the Eclipse engine, it is also one of my favorite projects I just really have fun working with it.

Now I'm going to make another version of this game but all in 3D.

wish me luck~

There is, but avoid the dark flame dwellers. They come out as true hunters when they smell blood, and they never fail to reach it. The forums here are just plain honest - your project fits much better here and I'll be monitoring it. Keep up the updates!

With the 3D online version of Lufor, I started playing around with the Torque engine to test the lights and poly count rendering speed to see what I would be limited too, so far I have been very happy! This is a small test level I made last week.

the follage worked real well as you can see,

I then tested the shaders and lights

lastly I place a bunch of really high poly trees just to see how much the engine would slug down but it worked pretty good.

I plan to do this same test on DBPro and see how it holds up, if you follow this post I will post how it turns out as soon as I am finished~

I know where your coming from Vickie asking to see proof of 'Raven' however there is a difference between opinion and downtalking-without-evidence..

Even though Raven can be a bit of a idiot at times (like us all I suppose...) he does have SOME (SOME) good points....occasionally, haha.

I don't see any need to prove himeslf when he passes an opinion.

This is a non-loaded question, how much work does RC do? Does it require scripting? programming? drag'n'drop?

I apologise for my ignorance.

No he doesn't.

Quote: "I don't see any need to prove himeslf when he passes an opinion."

I do. He's never produced anything. When he gives an opinion he does so under the pretense that he's done so much. Not only does actually producing something further validate an opinion, but producing nothing ever and pretending to when imposing your overly long opinions on everyone else totally invalidates that opinion.

...anyway, to answer your question, yes, you have to write scripts in RC. But on a lighter side a lot of the basic functions are already made so things like portals or inventory menus have the code in place.

hope that helps~

Is there a link where we can log on and play it?

I can't seem to find any Realm Crafter based games running?

I followed link after link of beautiful graphics and buy the game engine ads but couldn't find the actual game.

I hate being the suspicious one but that kind of thing always makes me suspect while beautiful, it don't play well.

Ok this thread really annoys me.

You said you've posted here to get feedback from developers but whenever someone has actually raised a critism of it, you basically insulted them with "Let's see you do better idiot". All you seem interested in is people saying "That's cool" to which you reply "Thanks " (repeat x100).

There is no point having a thread for that.

Unimpressed with your attitude, and not particularly impressed with the project.

I'm a programmer and you didn't program this at all (why is it here in Programming Talk??), so that doesn't impress me, and as Raven previously said, the media is mid/late 90s (sub Hidden & Dangerous). The only decent thing is the foliage which is crammed into every shot - and that was made with TreeGen.

If people think that the fact Raven has never released a game removes credit from his suggestions, then that's fair enough. What's not fair is replying to all of them with petty insults. Just because you can't accomplish something yourself, does not mean you can't tell someone else how to do it - otherwise Roger Federer's coach would have to be better at tennis than he is, wouldn't he?

Cash, stop being a twat.

And what exactly have you produced then? A few screenshots and videos of a game you've been working on for ages, and constantly reminding people you've got 2 whole publishers (and I seriously doubt they're well known) for your game? Sure, you've done more by even making it this far than most other people, but not by much. I propose you drop the attitude and realize you're nothing special. As for the comments about Raven's noobslap, you made in the same post in which you insult him, which is clearly against the AUP, so stop being hypocritical and get a life.

Hey Vickie. I don't know if you remember me from the old 3dRad forums, but I remember you and some of your projects. It's pretty cool to see someone I know being featured in the Caligari newsletters. I want to say congratulations on your success thus far, and I hope there is lots more in store for you. Your projects look pretty good, I like those tests from June in the Torque engine alot.

Hi Agent Dink, hey I remember you also! How have you been these days? What’s really nice is I have met up with a lot of people that have been doing this as long as we have. They are still hard at it too. Seems like the circle of developers isn't as big as one might think, or at least the ones that stick with it over the years. Thanks for the nice things you said Dink, it's really good to see a familiar avatar again. This board is rather cold and unfriendly, it really makes me miss the Rad days~

Hey, yeah, I'm still at it! Don't think I'll ever give it up, especially if I turn it into a career. I know what you mean about the boards being cold and unfriendly in comparison to 3dRad's. There are just so many people here compared, it's alot harder to work yourself in, but it's a pretty good community. They're growing on me LOL. I've always thought the same thing about how small the independent scene is. There's lots of people here I've recognized from 3dRad and a few other places here over the years. Mike Hense being one of them. He's mostly been in the DarkGDK board talking about submarines and simulations ^_^ Yeah, he's still at it.

So, how did you get so noticed at Caligari? Did you just start a work in progress somewhere and they thought it was a good advertisement, or what?

I won 3rd place in the summer blowout contest with a game I wrote called "Pod Pit" after that they started watching my work and when they saw this last project "Witch Gate" they asked if they could use my work in an add. After that they did an interview with me and ran it on their magazine site. The rest is history~

Yeah RC2's client is being converted to C++ and the tools are already in beta and still have a fair few bugs to be handled but are running alot smoother than they were(now there in c#). RealmCrafters evolving nicely and has a great dedicated team running it. I've been watching your project for quite a awhile on the RC boards, my names ben on that(originallity!). Just thought i'd pop in and say Hi. I also noticed a few screens that I hadnt on the RC forums which was nice. Don't let this project burn out like so many indy developers do =)

Good luck.

If you haven't heard about it yet (I know you work there now), check out this thread. It might give credence to the argument to leave this thread open.
