Right... A MMORPG is very complex to make, and isn't something you can make in a daym let alone a year. And, also, I doubt your even anywhere near experienced enough to program one.

My advice: Start programming with a smaller goal, not an MMORPG.

Sure, let me pull out my "How to Write an MMORPG in 2 weeks" 10 page pocketbook .

Considering your join date, I'm surprised that you don't know that posts like this are looked down upon and locked. See this thread:
http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=104647&b=7

And I have yet to understand why everyone wants to make an MMORPG .

You know I'm not going near this.... Man, the "MMORPG Fever" is in full swing. That's at least five in the last week. Is it the heat of the summer?????

If you're used to making FPS's, can we see an FPS at least?

An in game screenshot - perhaps even a quick video of it in action.

Well after the success of WoW who wouldn't want to make a successful mmorpg and charge $10 a month, i would even want to make one but first learn the basics. Good luck.

Because WoW was made by a team of professionals with college degrees over a few years using most likely C++, and game making isn't all about money .

I make games so that I can create something that makes the player have fun. Not for the money, even though that's a nice bonus.

You could always use realmcrafter

For all intense purposes a Chat App is a MMO (minus graphics and sound). So developing a Chat Prog can be the launching pad for a Graphical MMO. You can find good startup Source Code --> http://www.thegamecreators.com/?m=codebase_view&i=f3dac28b9773bd69fbd1f93f54048c0e.

If you can design and write your own Chat App, then your next step is to add simple 3D game world to the chat. The game world could consist of a simple Terrain. A sphere is used as an Avatar to represent each user in the chat. When a user joins the chat, you place an avatar on the Terrain. Users control their avatar by sending special movement commands via chat.

If you can achieve this basic chat/game you can continue to add more features until you shape this chat/game into the MMO of your dreams. The key point here is to start with the network without it, you dont have a MMO.

Would be interested in working on a FPSRPG

Why Not? That is exactly what I'm doing with DarkMORG. If game maker #05 can code for a FPS, which is challenge in itself, a MMO will be no different.

My words of wisdom to game maker #05: NO one will help you make your game. Afterall, most of us here, are here to make our OWN games. My advice: Get something coded and show your work. That may encourage others to take part. This is my strategy, I suck at art, I need artist. But, before I ask for help I need to show artist a game engine that they can put their artwork into. Otherwise it is all for not.

IMHO, this thread is intended to be a Joke.

Exactly what experience do you have to back this claim up?

Isn't that slighty too harsh, hardsoft studio. Really its better too help newcomers learn how to code something simpler. Like Pong!

It was 2d okay, besides, it was more of a messenger service. Do people just search for my threads or something? It is getting to be rather annoying.

It's actually better making an RPG, and leaving the MMO side of things to an expert programmer, like Serge Adjo.

lolololol

I'd say the real reason you can't make an MMO in DarkBasic is that each net game can only hold 255 players, and you can only run one net game at a time for each app. Other than that, it really doesn't seem to me to be much harder than any other good game you could make, though admittedly I've never tried to make an MMO.

heh, with a plugin, that doesnt matter, and you can support millions of players

a mmo is just like any game, just a 100x complexer and way more work

@bmaczero: 255 players wouldn't really be enough to call it an MMO.. But on the other hand, I'd be surprised if any n00b made an MMO that ever had more than 5 players on at the same time! :p
