What 3d programs/ modelers that can import .x format meshes and split them grid-like into smaller meshes?

While i am on the topic of importing .x meshes, I have another question. Milkshape 3d can export objects as .x Why can't milkshape 3d import .x meshes? Isn't that like a must for every 3d modeler?

3dsMax can split meshes.
http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=100892&b=24

Although Max doesn't have a native .x importer there is a free plug-in available which can do this,I know because I use this myself, only problem is I just cant remember where I got it.

Awesome!

Strange, i Instinctively knew that already, but i guess now i have the fact.

I am tried to get the 3ds max to work, My laptop met all the specifications, amd turion 2.0 ghz radeon x700, it should work but it refuses to install itself because it says my system isn't good enough for some reason.

I am very surprised that 3dsmax, the biggest game making tool out there doesn't have .x importer.

Thats probably because alot of people who can afford max use it for bigger more expensive engines than .X engines.

nope. Well compared to 3ds, max, obj, etc yeah. But the more advanced engines use their own extension files. Which are more secure and harder to extract. And can only be used in that specific engine. If you look in a games folder (e.g. Morrowind) You'll see 0 .X files. Morrowind uses .nif and without the proper knowledge of the max plugin. is harder to extract. But is easy to export.

Dunno if what i said made any sense to you but there ya go

i thought blender can split terrains, but i can't figure out how.

is there a plug in maybe?

I find blender confusing. milkshape and even 3dsmax look easier to use.

dus it give an error when importing? if so then post it here.

what file tipe is it? if its .x the inporter is fussy, it wont import a file that it exported most of the time! most of the importers are python scripts, and dont have any documentation.

try importing the file then turn on all the layers( the 20 buttons on the viewport header.
