it may be worth getting but i depans on how good you are.if you just starting to program games then yes the book a good ider but if you can say program game up to the level of a nomal Retro Game entry then the book will not tell you any thing you can`t get out the manual.

if you can program and need a good book try "game programing genes 1 to 3" it tell you thing in C++ but you can put most of in to sum form of DB.

What kind of topics does this book cover anyhow? I'm an adverage programmer (with a good 3/4 years of experiance in 2d programming) and i know all the basic princiables behind it all, will the book teach me anything new? Any chapters on say multiplayer princiables, 3d special fx (clever lighting alogrithms, shadows, ect), good 'real use' examples of memblocks ect? I thought about getting it already, but 30+ quid is rather hefty for something that may turn out to be a funked up hello world tutorial

Sephnroth, it doesn't get too in-depth as such, but I really find it a good book, I need structure to learning something new (even though I have programmed in different languages before), and the book has a good structure to it.

The last thing the book has you do is build a (3D) multiplayer/head2head car fighting game.

Plus it's over 700 pages so you know you're getting your moneys(sp?) worth, however if you have been programming for 3 to 4 years, and you already have quite a good grasp of DB/DBP then this probably isn't for you.

hmm, it might be worth the purchess just for that last chapter then - i would be intrested in how they setup their multiplayer code, and besides, racing games are cool

Well I haven't got to the last chapter yet Sephnroth, so you're best asking someone else who has got that far, how it performs.

it has some net chat code as well which is interesting ,but I find it also gives a little more detail and explanation of the commands than the help file. Its a handy book and if you dont mind the cost I think it would be a usefull reference for slightly more advanced users

You could of said you're good Noodle instead of evil, and you still could of been lying.

What if he's a Gray Noodle who dosen't mind lying about being an Good Noodle, but since he's lying he's really an Evil Noodle who lies about being a Gray Noodle who disguises himself as an Evil Noodle?

Or vice versa of course.

i have found the book usefull for the foundations of darkbasic, but for advanced 3d stuff, it doesn't help much in that way. Maybe someone might think about writing a darkbasic pro 3d book with such things like bsp maps etc
