A cup, a glass, a table and a chair - fairly easy simple things...but I suggest you follow tutorials first - before anything else - that is the best way to learn - as it's quick and helps you understand more about the program. - The 'I can get the hang of this' approach is slow and awkward - I know because that's what I originally went for.

I wouldn't recommend Milkshape for either of those. The best ones are made in 3D Studio Max....

I don´t think so, it depends on the skills of the artist not the software.

well, Milkshape is meant for low poly modelling. Of course a good artist could make a character in MS3D, but 3ds max is what the pros use, and it has the right tools for 'da job.

Well, not all the pros use 3D studio max, characters in HL 2 was made with ligthwave (or softimage I don´t remenber) and HL 2 has the better models made for a game ever, in my opinion of course.

Any ways, you will have to convert to low poly after to put in your game, so, why dont do it low poly in first place?

*sigh*
You make the high poly model first and then you make a normal map and then you convert high poly to low poly then you add the normal map.

You can make a normalmap without a high poly model.
