Does anyone know the license details on the model packs, it says they can be used in applications outside of fpsc such as dark basic, does that mean applications outside fpsc, like whatever you may use it for, or does it mean fpsc and DB only.

Whats the license details on the model packs.

I know thye extended the license to be used in the Dark Basic language, (almost positive about this), however, outside of FPSC and DB I am 99.9% sure you cannot use the model packs or any of the FPSC content that comes with the FPSC package, (the stock media) out side of FPSC or Dark Basic. Please someone tell me if I am wrong.

nope, you are correct sir. They don't want you to buy the program for the models and media; they want you to use the program' so the models and media is the incentive to use it.

Thanks disturbing 13. I was 99.9% sure but you never know, that .o1% could be there.

I hope that helps Fallen One. As a note, any private media you buy, like independent game packs not through FPSC I have noticed cannot be used outside of FPSC either. So check those licenses if you want to use those for other engines also.

The stuff I sell or give away is completely useable in any engine.

I'm just finishing off a pack of skyboxes, 30 in all, they will be available in multiple formats for all the engines, you get more interest that way, the makers of the model packs must of been commissioned by the GC for an exclusive, the content artists, would of made more money by having them on multiple engines.

its also more work and more users to support if anything goes wrong and you don't have fancy website willing to advertise and sell for you as easily

Thanks

Not that that much work to save as a .3ds or .obj or whatever instead of a .x

And if you are selling stuff you are going to need a web site anyway.

I hope that fantasy model and weapons pack that is coming out is for other platforms as well as fpsc, those are really good pieces.

we could do with more stuff to buy as well, game objects, there is a lot of free stuff, and some fpsc stuff to buy, but a full game needs more, I have a few links to game content for sale but more is always welcome. Thats why I ask about using fpsc model packs in other engines, if I have to make a lot of content the incentive to put it in fpsc engine becomes less.

Everything I make is useable in multiple engines as well (and the license reflects that); both commercial and free stuff.

Yes we need to know about the stuff that comes in the game as well, if that content can be used as well.

Not that Im turning my back on fpsc and hijacking its content, I have two projects to use fpsc, but id like to use its stuff on another project that can port to consoles.

If we can use the model packs on other engines that is a very good deal that will get heaps of interest in the model packs as the quality of them is good and they are very useable for game projects.

No, it's not a mistake. This is indeed an article about FPSC Model Packs in the DarkBASIC section of the newsletter. There has been an ongoing discussion on the forums about the FPSC model packs, and whether or not they would be made available for use elsewhere. The quality of the models in these packs has attracted a much wider audience than anticipated, and this month we can announce that the license has been updated to answer the pleas of the many! This well-crafted set of resources is now open to all developers to use in FPSC, DarkBASIC Professional and other game-making tools.

Existing owners of the packs are also free to use their purchase in DarkBASIC Professional and elsewhere.
