I like it! It kinda glows whit a mix of sci-fi and modernday, reminds me of some good times I had whit Red Alert 2. And it has some real impressive details, altough some of it could be "smarter" as a texture, if this is for a game.

Ya I could defintaly texture some of the details, after I finish it I will probley go with a normal map or something if I can get it to work right.

It looks good, but even in the newest xbox 360 or ps3 games, you can guarantee they wouldnt have modeled those seems or cracks or even the bolts on the tubing, itd all be a combination of a good texture and a normal map.

Speeking of which Im actually really disappointed in how the graphics of a lot of new games coming out are looking right now. Amped 3 for example, looked like it could've been done on N64. But thats another story.

I agree ruccus it would have been done with textures and normals, I read a tutorial a few days ago about how to take a really high poly model make a normal map from it and apply it to a low poly model making them look identical, thought I would try it out. Mabey it will help my problem with not sparing polys like a good modeler

Here are two updated pics with the cannons, they are not done yet still need to add details and the such, not happy with them yet.

and for those of you wondering the poly count, I forgot to look before I left my room but last time I checked it was over 15000 with 1 cannon barrel..... ya.... see my poly problem? I need help...

I can see alot of stuff that you could be removed in order to save polygons, (It really hurts to be so limited in videogame design, yet its a good challenge too)You don't happend to have MSN, Yahoo, or Xfire do you? Becuse it would be alot easier to give you my useless advice over it.

No offense but those cannons look like they could be done in under 1000 pollies... 15000 pollies?! Woah...

That would be great ruccus lets see how a good modeler does it. Also none of the model is optimized so I have yet to remove extra/unused/useless polys though I doubt it will drop the poly count to much.

Sorry about that I actually dont have time to model one right now, thought I did, was hoping I edited it out before you saw the "Ill try modelling a low poly" comment.

The turret looks good, a bit heavy in the poly area though. The barrels don't need to be 36 sided, maybe using an 8 or 12 sided cylinder would have sufficed. Also I agree with Ruccus about the models detail. Unless that is going to be the player model or a cutscene model I would try to keep that type of model around 1000 poly's. You can always paint the details in later. Using a normal map would be cool but probably not needed for the type of model it is. I am Thinking that it would be something the player blows up at some point so alot of detail isn't needed for exploded items.

All in all I love the model, Would like to see where you go with this. Maybe create a scene for it and animate it up and show off a little cideo clip. <..hint..hint..>

Cheers,
Dave

Ya I was thinking about making a little animation of it firing off a couple shots, recoil and all that good stuff, and its all good ruccus whenever you get time. I know how real life is. The barrels are 18 sided acually 32 would have been a bit much even for me =P it just has a tweaked smooth modifier added to it to take off the jaggies.

EDIT: I dont know if im misunderstanding everyone else or their misunderstanding me, the cannon is not 15000 polys. The hole scene, 2 cannons, base, hoses, mounts, bolts, adapters etc is 15000.

in my oppinion the details you added can be added by simply bump mapping it.
