Is it possible to play a cutscene before a level begins or after a level is finished in order to create an objective for the following level. Because I don't want to have to trickily use story zones for cutscenes.

Is there any way?

Possibly via scripting but it might be difficult...

Using story zones is the easiest method, you need external tools to show video outside of the level.

You'll have to use story zones or you can use Signs to accomplish something similar.
At this point you can have a video/cutscene play before a game starts but I don't think you can have one playing separately between levels.

Please have mercy and use the search function.

Yes, in a way, just put your story zone on the character start point and right when he enters the game the story zone will begin.

Yes, just make the story zone the end zone by making it objective one, or the last objective, this will cause the game to end once the objective is completed.

I hope that answered what you were wanting to know.

erm the video script command... you can put a video anywhere with that but dont try and put one in the loading screen or you might die while you wait for the program to start responding again also you probably could put videos inbetween levels by adding that command to copy of the script the winzone uses with that command added then apply it (read the manual about that command and if you don't already understand it learn fpi scripting its the key)this would let you play the video before then next level is loaded

Thanks

That won't work between levels and the video script command only works as part of a main AI script for a dynamic entity...like a story zone.

Please have mercy and use the search function.

a winzone is a dynamic entity fred... and a winzone can have a different script on each level and only ends the level because it is a set as an objective so if the video command is in the script for the winzone it might play before the game ends and loads the next level if its done right but makign the storyzone and objective would work too as said above, that basicly what i meant

Edit: sorry about the double post i messed up

Thanks

Yeah, but the problem is that the player will get a breif glimpse of the level....or is that not the case?

Nah, that's not the case. I tested the "story zone on top of player marker" and it worked. But having the story zone at the end with it being the objective so it ends the level is ok, but After the cutscene plays, you glimpse the level again as it fades out. Is there a way to fix this?

Yes, just put a black image over the whole screen when you show the video

@ Shallows, if you want a cutscene to play before the level
just do as Lowell05 said put the storyzone on the player start marker.

And for the cutscene at the end of the level you could place that
cutscene in a storyzone in the next level, also on the player start marker, maybe that's an idea.

B.T.W. how do YOU make Cutscenes.

I'm rotoscoping scenes that I filmed with a few friends. It's taking ages doing it frame by frame in Flash 8, I'm trying to find something that can auto-rotoscope that is inexpensive or free.

Rotoscoping means taking live action film and changing each frame to make it look like a caroon....the movie: A Scanner Darkly was filmed entirely with rotoscoping.

Yeah, I fell in love with Rotoscoping when I found out about Waking Life, watched the first 25 minutes of A Scanner Darkly on ign. I bought the DVD of Scanner as well. I think it's a really awesome type of film edit.
