Dear Agony Aunt,

Im a coder. I KNOW all I need is a CPU (I used to assemble Z80 from a tape recorder (10 mins for 16k)). My STUPID RICH FRIEND seen my shiney Athlon2000+xp, 512mb, with Radeon 9000 graphics and bought A FAR BETTER computer. With a cool cut-a-way case. And cold cathodes. And fans with lights on em (that you cant see normally but he MAKES you look round the back of his computer). I now HATE my new PC and think our relationship is over before it has even began. My other (real) friends say my computer is still cool, but i cant stop thinking about his.

What should I do?

Jealous, Glasgow

What exactly is wrong with having a lovely, shiny new computer with greta stats and an aluminum cutaway case? You should thank him!

er... we DID NOT NEED TO KNOW THAT, let's just keep the relationships private... and I thought you were his friend!!!

anyway, I believe it probably could survive a fall, what with apartment buildings these days. They have to remove any floor that has a superstitous number, 13, 3, etc. Soon we'll have a 40th floor we can safely jump from!

hmm.. it depends actually..

Considering that fact the u should NOT get mix up between hardware and sex for a long term basis, i think the obvious fact is that there should be a time limit of lending both his properties to u, plus he should put minimal charge on his graphic cards. This only works if u consider to borrow his cards & wife for, lets say, 2-3 weeks.

Reconsider the point if u wanted over long term.

Who cares about what it looks like? It's not as if it's a car or something (ie. the most amazingly beautiful thing known to man, apart from the obvious (that isn't football)).

As to speed and performance. Stop crying and buy another one. Grief. And just think, for a while there UT 2003 (assault is back with UT 2004 apparently BTW!!!!!!) will run great on a network (tis nice). Then when Doom 3 comes out just buy another one to play on the network with the one I just told you to buy (cos the current one is rubbish). Or get an amazing graphics card. Or both.

Cheers

I am 99% probably lying in bed right now... so don't blame me for crappy typing

Just wait a few months and point out how much it costs to buy a comparable system now compared to how much he paid.
