I want to start using a MISoft Studios splash video right before a game starts. But we've encountered trouble when we tried to make one... it was a five second AVI video with a 67MB file size! What codec (or file format) is best for a short 5-second video, without sacrificing video quality? I want to keep the file size as low as humanly possible, and I know it can be done as I've seen countless videos with a tiny file size.

WMA9 and WMV9 might do the trick, although I think this went in the wrong board...

i'm not sure that DBP would be able to play a wmv.

I'd suggest Xvid or cinepak

I don't have a sig, live with it.

first of all, if your game is 16 bit you can eliminate a bunch of data setting your video accordingly.
I would also use cinepak as it has good compression for the windows user environment, short of H264 QT mov.
switch off the audio if not required, or at least drop it 22khz mono / stereo 16 or 8 bit.

To answer this question yourself.

make a folder and export the same video ten times with all the codecs you want and then compare it.
that will give you a definitive result.
