I'm currently having a problem with a 3d model thats in my library of free models i've found on the net. I've just loaded a model into darkbasic, and for some reason, whats drawn onto the screen is looking, well, not complete.

Is this something to do with darkbasics power of using models, or is this just a problem with the model itself. Its the first time i've tryed to load the model (some of you might know what game its from!).

Cheers

Probably some faces got flipped during the export process. It's hard to the tell, the angle isn't the best and the resolution a bit low. If you would be willing to attach the model I could take a look

I'm at work at the moment so i can't upload the model at the moment, but when i get home i can upload the model, as i said its a free model from a library of models i have found on the net. It has been exported from a google sketchup model (using deep exoloration) into an .X model.

@Elite Gaming: My bad, sorry about the mixup. I'll edit this thread with the results of the x file.

EDIT: Okay, well the model loaded it self just fine, but I expect there must have been some error when exporting from SketchUp. Image attached.

Most of the faces were flipped during the export. I tried to unify them inside MAX but a lot of the polys are still facing the wrong direction. Due to the complexity of the mesh it would take a while to flip them manually. I found the sketchup model on google and tried to export it to a different format. But no matter if 3DS or OBJ, the exported mesh always has some flipped polys.
If I find the time and nobody does it beofer me, I will fix the mesh for you.

A quick fix would be to set the object's cull to 0, causing backwards facing polies to be drawn either way.

I did try that, but there was still alot of gaps in the model (specifically around the cockpit area, and thrusters). Its not a model i'm planning on using in the game, more of a place holder, so unless you want to use the model yourself, i wouldn't put too much work into fixing it!
