As always, my modeling specialty has been swords. So, I made a couple more.

^I was modeling this one out to be the katana, but that's not where it went, and it had a FF7 feeling to me, so I tried to go with that. I also want to trim down some polygons off of it.

^This is the one that actually came out looking more like the reference image I had. Although, as you can see from the reference below, it has too much straight edge to it, and should instead have a gradual curve. I'll probably go back and fix that later.

^The reference image for the above katana

Katana's hard to do because its easy to put the vertices too far apart and then it looks chunky. But well done they look good.

I decided I'd make a katana later. I just call the "katana" up there a long sword. I like it, it's pretty to me.

Well anyway, I redid the blade and handle of the large sword, and here it is finished. I'll UV Map it probably tommorow.

I just remembered that this is the one I already UV Mapped. I have downloads for Wings 3D and Hexagon with full UVs.

This post has the Wings 3D download.

And the hexagon file of the above sword.

If anybody uses these swords, and actually textures them, I'd love to see what they come up with. And also comments on the UV job would be welcome.

there is a verry bad pole nere the handle, witch will shade verry badly, so its pritymutch useless at the moment. avoid using triangles and more than 5 poles (edges going into a vert)

the uther modles look quite good tho. apart from the poles on the blade!

The models were automatically triangulated when I exported them as .3ds from Wings 3D(where I do my basic modeling) to import them into Hexagon

Indeed and all game models or those exported as .3ds are triangulated, they don't shade poorly unless someone adjusts vertices from there. Though I'd probably suggest when switching between programs to use .obj or .lwo as they keep quad data.

never sed anything about tryangles shading badly.

the vert with tuns of edges going into it will probaly create some funny efects. vertaces tend to move around a little bit when the file is saved, althow i dont know why. this can create funny lines on the mesh.
