The observant ones among you may have noticed an absense of butterfingeredness around here lately, and it's true. I haven't been about.

I've had little free time lately, and the time I have had has been spent getting "serious" with DBpro and maya. I've been doing alot of character development, as well as coding an engine, so I haven't had time for the forums.

Anyway, I got really into messing with the FPSC stock models, and re-hashing them for my current project (a cross between Gears of War, and Soldiers heroes of ww2. Anyway, I realised that most of the stuff I was using could be plugged back into FPSC no problem.

This got me to thinking, that the new FPSC will be able to support the shaders etc that I'm producing for these characters, so they could look pretty wicked in the new x10.

Anyway, in no particular order...here they are.

Above: Demon mesh from Meshresearchlab, damned is a retextured zombie from MP4.

and finally (my favourite....just for the name really)

Is the first model just a selection from the "Creature Creator" program? I know the texture and(if you have) animations wouldn't be.... Just wondering. The rest of it looks pretty cool.

How can you not like them? I know butters' models aren't perfect like simon's or bond's, but they've got that...butterness to them that makes them good, so to speak

I dunno, Maybe It's cause I dont like Butters type Of modeling, I dont realy like Sci-fi and fantasy and things like it.
I I dont really like the texturing style either for some reason.
Dont get me wrong, they are very good, but just not to my liking.

I was thinking that actually. the damned look pretty cool in DBpro, when I instance like 100 of them.

Quote: "I especially like the Kaath Warrior. They are all just awesome"

That one is really thanks to Akshay Khullar, who showed me about sculpting polys. Meant I could get in to some really heavy detail on the head bumps. To be honest, I wasn't sure about the red "eyes", but it looked too plain without.

Haribo gummy bears. But the mutilated freaky ones...no not really. Just read alot of fiction, manga, korean scifi movies, doodles in my sketch book, pretty much wherever my head takes me!

Quote: "Very Nice indeed. I hope to see these guys in a game or demo soon!"

The "dante" test engine so far supports : collisions, weapon raycast, reticle ray cast, blood particles + texture splatter, basic enemy AI, entity instancing, team movement, lights and shaders. Demo is a long way off, but I'll get there!

Quote: "A definite improvement over your old work, Butters. The "Legions of the Damned" look best.
"

Thanks man, I've been really focusing on my texturing, UV and rigging. I think it's starting to pay off. I like the legions of the damned (there are actually 4 texture variations), but I'm less proud of it, because it's pretty much just a straight re-texture of the MP4 fat zombie.

Quote: "Is the first model just a selection from the "Creature Creator" program? I know the texture and(if you have) animations wouldn't be.... Just wondering. The rest of it looks pretty cool."

Before we get into any piracy shouting, I'm gonna come out and say that the model is from the 3D artist site but the texture and UV and rig are mine. Obviously I have not broken any distribution rights because I don't even have a game yet. If this ever gets into production I will, of course, be getting permission.

I'm not angry, but a little confused. As you can see from the credits, none of the base models are mine, so I can't see how you can say you don't like the modelling. Only the Kaath has been heavily modified, the rest are stock stuff just cut up and tweaked.
I'm glad you like the Prophets though. That guy has been literally hours of work. I spent 6 hours after posting this just getting his rig perfect and removing 90% of the deform (still a couple of stray dodgy vertexes dammit!)

TO everyone else, thankyou for your comments and applause ; I feel that this new batch of things represent a dramatic improvement, and so its nice to see that you guys agree (for the most part). I will be updating this, but please continue to comment!

OK. I'm not sure about showing this really. It's not strictly FPSC, but Inspires comment felt like a challenge to my credibility, so here it is. Bear in mind this is an EARLY engine test for the AI. I'm not running lighting or shaders. This is very early days!!

Oh! I realised you might not be convinced because there aren't actually 100 damned on the screen, so I climbed up one of the spires and got an aerial shot. it's cloning the object 99 times, but I think some have wandered off (the map is pretty massive).

You misunderstood me as well butters sorry, when i said they weren't perfect like simon or bond's models, i meant the style of them. you have a very unique way of modelling and texturing, and its one of the best seen, very imaginative.

P.S. The engine is looking good, I haven't tried instancing characters before with DBP, I heard that instanced objects follow the same properties of the parent and usually used for static scenery, but thats what I hear, X10 obviously has good instancing, so you could have those 100 characters in a single room if you wanted.

Just kidding guys. Had to do that.

Hey butters, now that you've come out of your shell, can you help me with my animation problem? Click Here to view the thread.

Your work is awesome Butters, really it is. This engine already looks good! And I like the texture randomizing. It adds a bit of variety.
Just an idea...make 2 or 3 bipe's for those guys, and have it randomize those too, so they walk and attack different.

It's a DLL for DBP that allows you to blend animations smoothly, so you could have a Character's lower body running, and upper body shooting.

Butters, I've been thinking about buying that plugin myself, how's it treating you?

He might mean enhanced animations, a plugin for DBP, that would be brilliant for these models, because you can play different animations at the same time if they at different points of the mesh, eg. walk animation and reload animation at the same time without making a walk and reload together animation.

@Butters

Have you got the texture max plugin for dbp? it could prove useful for your models if you're going to have this many of them

I love the environment you have there, very Dante.

Looks like a real custom job.I would be up for animating this if you wanted, remember the 'gay' dance anim I did for your ogre?,would look awesome on that guy.
