lol yeah I would have to agree. 3D game maker is old. I had bought it at the same time I bought darkbasic classic, I think about 3 yrs or more ago can't remember exact date. But however, I thought at the time that it was more geared to ages 5+ not 12+ plus or whatever it is.
If you don't want to learn a programming language, then I'd have to say FPS creator would be a better buy. I don't own it. but i've tried the demo and seemed cool. Not my type of program as I myself get annoyed by most shooters but to each his own.
And if you feel into learning the DarkBasic Pro language, That is also a much better buy for ya. Although be aware that it is only a language and does include things models and sounds, textures and what not. Don't get me wrong, It does have some models and media but not enough to account for. unless you buy the boxed version then I think dark matter 1 is still included.
