Is there a way to convert .Max models to a popular format that milkshape can use?

older versions of 3d studio max work with 3d exploration, however i hear that it requires max to be installed anyway for newer versions and launches some DLL's from it so it defeats the purpose.

Use a .X exporter from 3DS Max, I tend not to go this route as I'm not great with Max, never learned to bone animate y'see, but you really have to export to X to get working DBPro models.

The other option is exporting to .3DS from Max, then converting to .X - that's what I do, I use CharacterFX to animate so spitting out 3DS files is ideal for my needs.

We're going down... in a spiral to the ground...
