Hi all,

We're still very busy developing X10, I did find time to create a small demo to show off the engine and the wonderful ragdoll system.

The system will allow you to change the water colour using an FPI!

Awesome! Though they still fall in the same way, it's much more acceptable, I would say that ragdoll is ready! Now how about fixing that air system so prevent people from "bobbing"

EDIT
Quote: "Once they stop moving do they freeze, Or if I threw a grenade under them would they still do flying?"

I heard they are either baked into the scene or they disappear.

Perfect, just how it should be, nice job. I must admit, ragdolls and all, my personal perference has to be the water and shader effects like bloom etc. it just gives it that polished feel to it

One question rick, could you show either a vid, image or post even of how the water is created?

Thanks

You don't have to. The water height can be adjusted by a slider, I think Rick showed how it works in a previous newsletter video. I like to think of the water height as "sea level". If you don't want water for the level, just put the slider at zero.

Even better news from one of Rick's previous posts:

Quote: "Also, Lee plans to make the water work where ever you want it. So you can make swimming pool areas and not be limited to just one water plain.

It's default in the level, but you can change it to not have water.

I don't think it would be default, the map editor is always blank to start with

@Bond

Thanks for that, must of missed it

Yeah, you don't have to have the water. Plus,if you think that it is a bad method, well, oblivion and morrowind use this method for water. I think oblivion has more options for water though, but it still uses this method.

Bond has already shown ricks quote but yeah, thats oblivion your on about, its full of hills as far as i know, can you honestly tell me that you want water in a room, and then when you look out of the room you can still see the water plain, even in mid air?

Awesome video, Rick, it's showing true potential now.

I have a question though, would it be possible for the enemy to have a sequence of a death-animation played, say the enemy grabbing for his chest, and then let the ragdoll physics take over? That would be awesome, you could make cool "shoot before dropping dead" type animations like in Quake 2, except with ragdolls.

Or if you include randomization in the engine, you could have like four or five different death animations and then have the ragdoll take effect....or you could have no death animation at all and have the ragdoll take effect immediatly.

The idea of ragdolls is neat, but that needs some work.

But for a simple engine like FPS creator, that is really good.

This has been discussed many times before, check some threads again.

But FPSC X10 will be a completelly new program, not some sort of update.

Rick, do you think theres any chance some time in the future FPSC X9 will have ragdolls? Lee was talking about it in some thread a while ago. Maybe in v1.1?

Since we are on 1.07 now I don't think it will be in 1.01...
However,Rick has said there will be these type of physics in x9 eventually.
My guess is that if x10 is released late November/early December we would get a pretty good update for FPSC x9 sometime in January.
This is just a rough guess and assumes that TGC will release x10 during the holidays.
This is one of the things that I am waiting for in an x9 update.

Please have mercy and use the search function.

No no, that's not what I meant... look what I wrote: 1.1. Not 1.01, but 1.1. As in, 1.10. Beyond 1.07. If you get what I mean.

My bad...ancient monitor,ancient eyeballs.
Anyways, the jist of it is that as soon as they get x10 done we can start expecting the x9 update to be out shortly thereafter.
Anyone who hasn't been around for long won't remember how long we had to wait for the first update...and FPSC has come quite a way since then.

Please have mercy and use the search function.
