hi all, I'm working on an animation for my pc game, which involves essentially just one big fight in space between two armadas of ships. I was wondering how to create laser effects and glowing torpedos, I can make the torpedos except once I animate their flight path how would I get another to fly from its place e.g at the end of the gun whichh thhe last one has just flown out of?

thankyou for your time

create a * shape with overlapping plains, then texture them with so thay blend to full alpha at the edges, is this going to be a cut scene? renderd in realtime, or pre renderd.

you could use paths for the torpedoes.

learn blender, you will never regret it.

thanks, yeah its going to be a cut scene near the middle of my game, and pre rendred, I'd like to have it as a vido so I can edit the speed on different software.

How do you creat explosions on ships? I've been putting particle emmitors inside the ship object that spew the particles when I want, is there an easier way?

thankyou for your help

forget what i sed about the plains, thats the real time metherd , dupliframed verts on a path with a halo material should look much more realistic

cut up the ship mesh into peaces, and anamate the peaces flying appart, with the particle emitters for the fire effects.

the game engine should be able to bake a physics simulation for the separating part, although i don't know how. whats your current render time pur frame?

you may want to post a wip on blender artists

thanks, I'm still getting to know blender so I'm hoping I'll be a little better once this project is through.
My render time varies greatly, can be a few seconds per frame or it can be a few minutes.

Thanks

depends on allot of factors. ray traced shadows reflections vs buffered shadows and env mapping, ambient ocloution, high sample airia lamps, nomber of lamps, polycount...

as well as the cpu clock speed and amount/ type of ram

my ram needs updating I've got 512mb I'm going to try to get something more like 3gb mainly for doom3
When I've finished the animation, would it be ok if I send you a copy so I could get your advice on it?

512 meg of ram is plenty, i verry rerly use more than that, even with my high poly scenes, 200k+ ploys, you can get even more rendering speed by rendering from a command line on a light Linux distro. the time difrence, espetialy on scenes with lots of effects or polys is quite a bit. my 1 hower renders take 1 and a quarter/ 1.20 howers on windows!, would be even quicker from a cli
