TO all users

I am presently working on an alternative version of 'Model Pack 8' which should clear up some of the issues that users have with it.

In the new version the room segments will now 'not' have ceilings embeded into them which frees up an issue about removing the floor segments close to room walls. Model Pack 8-V2 will contain everything that the first version had but with the inclusion of 'seperate' ceiling segments for all rooms which will have to be applied manually by the user.
Model Pack 8-V2 will be made available for download to all users of the original through their 'order history' as soon as ready.
This alternative Pack can be run alongside the first Pack in the FPSCreator library browser if needed but please bare in mind that it will more or less be a duplicate of the first Pack with everything included.
Also, I have been working on a 'Free Add-on Pack' which will also be made available to all users of Model Pack 8, maybe by the end of this month. I will post more details about this at a later date.
PDF documentation will be supplied with both Model Pack 8-V2 & the Add-on Pack.
Please note that Model Pack 8,both versions, were designed to have 'ceilings' in the rooms.
I will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have but take note that I am considered a noobi on the forum and my replies may be slow.
Looking forward

Huh? Ross tra damus created model pack 8 so he can do what he likes with it, if that's what you mean.

One of the problems I was having was that when I compiled a stand alone FPSC would not move the segment DDS files to the executable file. No real biggy, I just have to move them over manually. Just was wondering if this v2 takes care of that or if this is a GC issue.

This is a fabulous pack. Hope some Egyptian bipeds will be include into the addon pack. I would even be willing to pay for them.

I do not actually have a final Game Creators copy of my Pack which I think I will ask to be made available to me ,just to check that everything is where it should be.
I can't think why the DDS files do not copy over to a stand alone because they are just standard DDS files originaly generated by FPSCreator. I too have had some 'strange' save problems 'on & off' with this current version of FPSCreator (v-1.06).
Dark Egypt-V2 is finished now and was going to be sent today but before i send it, I will ask about this issue.
Thanks, I'm glad you like the pack but I'm afraid I do not have good modelling skills and the 'bipeds' you mentioned will not be in the add-on pack. I would like to see a character pack released with a range of characters of a Fantasy nature i.e strange creatures including an 'Anubis' biped.
If I get any information on the issue mentioned, I will let you know here as soon as I get it.

Additional information to Flatlander

I have had no positive response from the GC as yet (must be busy) to the issue you have brought up, so I decided to check out the issue myself with 'my' original copy of Dark Egypt and with Dark Egypt-V2. I constructed a simple two story building with some inner walls inside and sand exterior floor covering,ran test level which was ok, then saved as map files. Next I built a 'stand alone' of both maps from both versions of Dark Egypt and then checked the results. Both Games ran perfectly and the correct files 'DDS' did copy over in their correct folders with no problems.
Until a GC retail copy of Dark Egypt is made available to me, which I have now been promised, I can not be 100% sure if this is a bug in the retail copy of Dark Egypt that all users have (but not myself) or just a GC issue.
I will wait for a response from the Game creators before forwarding Dark Egypt-V2 for release to Model Pack 8 owners.
If you have any luck on this issue before me, please let me know so that I can release Dark Egypt-V2.
I will be in touch on information received.

Flatlander + Uthink

First of all I would like to say thanks to Uthink and everybody else from the forums for their praise, its encouraging.
Now to Flatlander.
Lee from the Game Creators has also tested Dark Egypt today and has come up with the same results as myself(both run in FPSC v-1.06). The issue does not appear to be within the Pack. He did suggest that for some reason or another the Pack might not have installed properly. A suggestion would be to uninstall the Pack and then re-install it and try again with just a basic map to test to see if this issue is resolved. Remember to 'save' any 'map' files you have created with the Pack before you uninstall, just in case.
Please let me know how you get on with this.
By the way, I will now send the new version of Dark Egypt to the Game Creators for it to be processed and made available to all Model Pack 8 users.
I hope I have helped

Ross tra damus,

I lost where I had posted the original message and just now found it. It only happens to a couple of segments but can't remember which ones now. I do know it is not any of the basic segments. Most all of the segments work fine just the one or two didn't. Will let you know the exact segments so you can test those out your self. I basically just forgot about this as I would just do it manually. BTW, I know that there are a lot of segments and it would take some time to test each one. Yes, the ones you tested work fine for me as well.

I used your pack in my current WW2 game as a secret room. This game will be part of a webquest site for educators. You know how those Nazi's loved the mystic of Egypt and the middle east. Just ask Indiana Jones.

@ Dan the man

@ Ross tra damus

When I first compile I get everything except the sub-folder:

Temple in the Temple of Gold-(inside use)

I get this much (full path):

I still need the sub-folder Temple and then the segments:

* Wall-01
* Wall-12
* Corner-inside-01
* inner-wall-09
* inner-wall-03

Since they are not there everything is just plain white. Of course, all I need to do is add the sub-folder and segments.

I used the segments out of the sub-folder Temple of idol worship under the same folder as Temples and they were included. Also, the

segments were included. Just what I mentioned was not included. Hope this helps somebody.

My first guess was the parentheses might have confused the logic of the compiler and so it just stopped at that folder. Or there is a limit to the number of sub-folders. Just a couple of educated guesses but are only that -- guesses.

BTW, if anybody else has problems like this just add the segments manually to the appropriate place under you files folder in your compiled folder. Also, might want to let the appropriate peopled know.

Thanks for looking into this issue so closely. I have come to the same conclusions as yourself. I had submitted Dark Egypt-V2 a while back which has been stopped from release because of these issues by myself and the Game creators.
I have found that everthing works fine in the 'Editor' and in 'Test game' which tells me that all texture names & address's are correct but when it comes to creating an 'FPM' file, say for a build, not all textures are copied over. It appears that this process is having problems reading sub folders with the necassary textures in them which are all named and addressed correctly.
Over the last two weeks I have reconstructed the whole Pack from scratch using the very latest version of FPSCreator available (v-1.06) and the latest Direct X (August) and have run more tests. There still appears to be an issue with certain textures not being saved to the 'FPM' files because of it not reading sub folders.
I have been told that this is an issue which is being addressed and will be corrected in the next 'Upgrade' but I am still waiting for confirmation on this subject.
I do not want to release Dark Egypt-V2 or the upcoming 'Bonus Pack' until I get confirmation from The Gamecreators that this is an issue which can be resolved. Unfortunatly, information from the Gamecreators, is slow. I am today waiting for a reply from TGC and hope that it yeilds positive results.

I am sorry but at the moment this is all I can tell you but I can assure you that I/TGC will get to the bottom of this issue.

Thank you & all Dark Egypt users for your patience.
I will keep you informed, if and when I get any more info.

All the best

Rostradamus, I certainly understand and I thank you very much for your reply. That is a very professional attitude. I also know that TGC does not have a very large programming staff and this makes it difficult especially since they are working very hard for the release of X10. Although, I'm not sure why there is such a hurry as I don't believe those who are gamers will be getting VISTA anytime soon.

Even version 1.06 for FPSC is still a little buggy but again most everything seems to have a work around. Those things are very minor and I would just as soon have some major improvements included into the editor and compiler for FPSC, I know there is going to be some really sweet stuff for X10 but that I don't plan on buying that for some-time I would rather continue with X9 because most of the young people still use that and even schools are not in a hurry to upgrade to X10 because of budget constraints.

I think the major thing for them to think about is allowing for the player to be able to have an inventory list of things picked up. Most games have that but of course FPS games were not made for that but the FP perspective I think can be a new way of creating 3D RP and Adventure games as well as the ability of shooting. Sitting characters would be good to although there is a way to to do it although it is a climbing animation.

Sorry for being so windy but that's just the way I am. You see I can type 40-50 wpm and so I can really get a lot typed in a short amount of time.

I have just been told that Lee is on holiday right now so I will have to wait for his return to ask him about this issue & the next upgrade. I will use this time to do more tests and maybe try and finalize the 'Bonus Pack'.
Your skilled, i'm rubbish at typing (10 wpm) thats why you do not see much from me on the Forum.

Thanks
