Hello i have tried everything to search the forums about this and i am having difficulty refining it, and yes i have tried everything! even long questioned sentences!

Please can anyone let me know if i can use Softimage XSI to create entities.
Exactly what files do i need to make an entity. the only file i am sure of is the .X file, but i know there are other files
e.g:
.dds (what is this file and what is it for?)
.fpe (what is this file and what is it for?)
.bin (what is this file and what is it for?)
.dbo (what is this file and what is it for?)

I hope someone can help.

dds files are textures.
fpe files are the discription of the entities like:
If it is dynamic,
What scripts does it use,
And what texture does it use.

You actually dont have to do anything with the bin and dbo files.

----------------------------------

You need an modelling program which can export to an X file.

Or a modelling program and finally you can convert the (...) file to an X file.

Then when its an X file you just download the Entity Creator from
the FPSC site itself.

Follow some tutorials that came along with it.

And you have yourself a nice looking model!

Its really easy to make models for FPSC.

Thanx again.

How do i create .dds and .fpe files, or does the entity creator make them for me?

You can actually use:
TGA files.
jpg files.

But dds is the best.
If you already have your texture and it is in a other format you can.
(or at least i think you can) export them with an program.

Never needed one so dont know what to look for.

fpe files are created with the entity creator.

yeah i have another problem now, i have made a model and textured it, i put it through the Entity Maker and it worked just fine, the picture even shows the man fully textured, the problem is that when i use it in FPSC the man is completely white. Everything else worked perfectly well and all the files were made. What has gone wrong? What can i do?

When you make your entity you have to put the
sort of file (tga, dds, jpg etc etc...) behind the texture's name.
Like:

World.dds

instead of

World

Also i has to be 1 texture.

And if that didnt helped out then you must check in FPSC
right click on the entity and check the texture status.

well now you see the entity maker requires me to tell it to put a texture onto the object but how can i put a texture on a character, i don't want it to be all one colour, is there a way of making a 3D texture. i might try out some other objects rather than people but i still will get the same problem. Objects aren't all one colour, which is a shame. lol.

Lmolthe texture is 2d and contains all the detail of the character it is then mapped on the 3D object the UV mapping as its called should be saved in your model before importing. You then make sure the correct texture is assigned to the object

Thanks

Take a look at the stock textures that goes with FPSC.

Every model that goes with FPSC has 1 texture.
