Looks like its a bunch of primitive cylinders... If it is then I'd work on making it out of one mesh as just moving primitives around isnt really modelling... if it isnt then my bad.

....if you can't move around primitives your not gonna be very good at modelling. Give the guy a break.

My first model was made out of primitives and thats how most peoples start modelling, in fact the first chapters of 3D modelling books are usually based on just primitives.

You should make the part were the ball hits all one face not a hole. Then you can use the alpha chanen to make it look like a real one.
