Hey all! This is my first post and first venture into the realms of creating computer games.

Previously i have concentrated my skills on 3D animation. A close friend has asked me do help him develope his first game. I hope to devote the rest of my career in 3D modeling to Computer games rather than animation and decided now is probably a good time to start.

My dilema is, I am used to making high poly models and texturing using the surface editor in the 3D package (Lightwave 9) and my UV and photoshop skills are rather limited.

I can successfuly export my models to .X format.

Can anyone recomend a method/package for texturing low poly models ready to give to my friend for importing in to Dark Basic Pro?

Any help/advice/tips is greatly appreciated

I have just had the same problem myself.
If you do a search on *lightwave* you'll probably find the post.

I myself use lightwave 7.2 and have had serious difficulty with exporting. you'll have to let me know if 9 is any better and I might upgrade.

Anyway this is my usuall route although you might find 9 has better short cuts,

1.export object as .3ds ( you have to triple the object first and apply a UV map on the maps page).
2. Import into Milkshape.
3. Layout your model grouping whichever sections ready for UV mapping.
4.select type of UV mapping for each group.
5.Move your selections around on the UV map until happy.
6.IMPORTANT save your UV map AND your model.
7.Alter your UV texture.
8.Re-apply in milkshape
9.Once happy export as a .x
10.Load model in Darkbasic and apply texture..

This should work..If you find a better way plz let me know.

Thanks for the advice. I shall give that a go

Im in the midst of negotiating with sum 1 for their spare licence for Zbrush. I'm hoping i'll be able to use that to texture.

You cant really beat bein able to paint directly on to your 3D model. Cant wait to giv it a got/

I got it workin fine using just lightwave 9

Multiple surfaces, UVs textures for all. Just used the DX exporter to export both the model and the texture.

working great now
