A "Matuka" is a N-Z fishing fly, the funny thing is that I'm not from NZ. But the name, is original!

Well, you've already made a mistake. Less wood curls, and also watch where your wood curls are going towards! They should be going from left to right rather then top to bottom(Which yours do BOTH, somehow).

Ok, I'll completely redo the wood, hadnt thought of that.

It is sleety and cold here.

Turns out "sleety" is an actual word. Who knew.

Happy Thanksgiving! Now we shall break our American tradition of sustainable living and consume superfluous amounts of food instead!

That was not funny if I understood it.

Happy thanksgiving, and I am thankful that God kept my whole family (10 people, soon to be 11) safe and healthy.

Well not really un-called for.

If you dont belive in a being above you and people constantly give it credit then it would seem a slap to the face.

But there are many belifes each with thier own truths.

Dont dis-credit everything it helps to have a little faith now and then even if it seems impossible.

//Fair right?//

Really? Is there not one absolute truth? Of course, it isn't our place to say what that truth is, but surely belief does not constitute to truth.

That truth is unknowable. Make up your own beliefs and call them true. Ergo, religion.

silly laz think first

I see religion as a moral conduct from along time ago, from that we learned and feared enough not to kill each other as much but now it more like unwritten rules and laws set in place to keep order.

Blind faith leads us to a nasty place.

Well no problem in stating that you don't believe in God or any gods is fine, because we've seen people state their belief in God and amongst people's favourite books, I noted people put 'the bible'. Should be nowt wrong with expressing things like that on these forums, if it be required in the context of a discussion. I consider myself an atheist Buddhist. An atheist who finds himself relating to the central points of Buddhism and sees meditation as a being a good thing. I'll state that because I want no assumptions made from this message. ('Atheist' is often a misunderstood term...I won't discuss it, but those who are curious - look it up on Wikipedia or in the dictionary)

But of course, this forum is quite multicultural in that there's someone from everywhere (Different parts of America, Canada, UK, Norway, Sweden, Germany, France, Japan, Finland, Australia etc.) and thus taking those beliefs into a level of discussion is not a good idea...the issue of religion can leave people to be extremely defensive. So maybe making points like "God doesn't give a damn about us" remains inappropriate is it implies that God exists and that he doesn't care about you or your family...or people as a whole (dependent on who 'we' is) - there are many views about God, whilst some would tend to agree with you...especially as you're an atheist, the Westboro baptist Church would certainly share that view, but other denominations may find that somewhat offensive because they believe God loves everyone. Whereas you and I don't believe He exists and as we'd expect people here to accept that, we'd also have to respect those other people and accept what they believe...if not in the real world, then at least on here, after all, it's a forum that requires it.

This has probably broken the rules...but in good intention - not to stir up discussion, but rather to prevent it.

Weren't the religions from a long time ago built on a base of murder though? (Thinking ancient Greeks, Romans, early judeo-christianity etc). They all have stories of Gods murdering a killing and whatever as punishments and stuff, and that punishing others via death was A-OK. So a moral conduct is doubtful, at least in ancient times.

It becomes a difficult one INH to say what a religion was founded on...it's definitely difficult to state under the extremely broad umbrella of 'religion' and well...stating that religion was originally build on violence will cause a stir...particularly by the religious people on this forum...which possible accounts for quite a large number. Considering we're all friends here, it's not worth it.

I have my own views on this. Drop me an email at seppuku30[at]gmail[dot]com because this isn't the place - so I won't even hint what they are and it's SO easy to offend people with your stance, so as they say, "quite while you're a head", as it could potentially turn ugly with a dishing out of newb slaps in the end.
