Kind of an odd thing I'm noticing:

I've got a third-person view going on, and for whatever reason I've noticed that my character .X model always appears to be standing on TOP of the DP character controller, rather than being INSIDE it. I've re-exported the model dozens of times and in a variety of formats, but no dice. Anyone else have this problem?

It probably has something to do with how the object is placed in your modeler when saved. Try moving him down lower and then resaving the model and see what results you get.

I thought so, too, and I lowered my model, but it only makes the character fall through the floor, which I assume means that it forces the character controller to start below the floor model I've set up.

When you initially set dynamic characters DP will levitate any object that is occupying space of a previously positioned object.
To check if that is happening to you place all the objects in the scene except your model, point camera a the character controller then add the model to see if DP is moving the model to avoid collision issues

Hope this helps

It may help if you post your code and model here. Then we can check it out.
