Thanks for this tutorial, as Nickydude says above I also never much understood the segment editor which is why I use Signs.

I'll give this a go when I find time.

You know what might be useful that I can't find information on, and that is what bloody unit sizes does FPSCreator use?
Dont' really want to sit there doing trial and error to get it right.

Can't find any posts that seem to mention it.
Something that always irritates me about modifying games is they never mention scale systems for artists.

I mean a plus side of the DarkBASIC Professional system is it uses a 1unit = 1cm scale however this doesn't help when things seems to be weird sizes.

From what I can tell, is squares are 1sq = 100units; but not entirely sure about this. That would be the best thing for people to mention with their help tutorials.. yet nope no sodding mention of it anywhere I've checked so far!!

That window tutorial is ok. It doesn't describe how to make the window part though, it just describes how to make the frame and the punch CSG box.

How can I make a clear window that breaks, along with everything you just described?

oh yeah obviously, cause it makes sense to have it in there!
i've been all through that, and you know what a single reference. very difficult to find as for a pdf there's no contents table, nor any direct reference to it.

this entire area of the forum is close to pointless for information on developing for FPSCreator.

it doesn't even contain any of the most basic information.
simple things like sizing is EXTREMELY important.

Segment Size = 100 FPSCreator Units = 8' 4" = 254cm
So far that is all I've seen. Has anyone here ever read the Source Valve Developer Wiki?

There is an entire section of it in the "introduction to modeling for source" where it goes through EVERYTHING you need to know about scaling.

There needs to be something similar for FPSCreator. I'm really begining to see why there is very little custom media, let alone decent custom media.

There needs to be something like that! But obviously TGC didn't really think that developers might need important information like that. Especially with the lack of MULTI-3D APPLICATION examples!!

Wish I'd actually bothered to try this stuff while I was working for them, would've chewed them out about it. As really the help available is beyond a joke. There isn't enough media available, and most will want to make their own custom stuff.. yet there is sod all information really needed to actually develop without tearing your hair out every few minutes.

just a joke, a complete joke.

Good idea about the tutorials. Maybe it's a good idea to make a tutorial about importing a mesh (building etc.) in the segmenteditor step by step. (Like Rolfy/Cheese Cake did). I and others would really like to know how to do this.

the .fps/.fpi/.fpe are just text files, you can open them up in notepad. it's just mostly the settings you see in the editor really.

the fpsc entity and segment editors have their source available to show how they export. probably so the community can make better tools (which to me is a cop-out, TGC should really be provided decent mod tools themselves)

oh X, i'll post up a bit later a tutorial on stopping that horribly tearing effect and slow-down you get in fpsc from the way tgc create rooms.

they really should have a procedural routine for creating rooms based on templating, would require a little more setting up than drag'n'drop; but the benefits would really be overwhelming.

as they don't we're really left optimising their mistakes, as i said i'll sort out a tutorial for that.

YES, once made with Seg editor put all files in your fpsc folders!
