Hello everybody!
I am posting some of my textures for free here (as I've promised before). Most of my stuff may look a bit sci-fi and fantasy, so ww2 fans, please don't get angry
I have created about 130 textures so far.
Of course, I cannot upload all the textures, so here's the link to the complete website.
http://www.free-textures-tga.com/
*.tga and *.dds files are zipped for faster downloads.

I will add more textures soon. Hope you'll like them.
Cheers!

Update: I add contents, even if I don't post anything here.
Please Ignore a few of the first posts as they comment old contents posted here (already removed).
And please express an opinion about the textures on the website, not only for those you see here.

Thanks!

Don't want to be horrible. But they look so fake. The wood one looks like stitchings with a overlay over them. If I was making a cartoon game I'll download these.

Well, I appreciate your fake opinion Plus I never expect to hear anything positive from you...
Quote: "The wood one looks like stitchings..."

Have you checked the other ones on the website? I would be glad to hear what do you think. Criticism is always welcome...

I plan to add thousands of free textures, so I would like to know what the other users think and of course what they would like to see.

Look sorry but they dont look that good.

Maybe for a cartoon game they would.
Even though the 1st and 3th would still look weird in a cartoon game.

Best of luck with this.

Cheers,

Well, more of them (130 so far) are a bit fantasy stuff, and I can see that the community here likes horror and urban models. As I said I'll add textures regularly, so I may try to create something less abstract. Hope I’ll have enough free time next week.
Thanks anyway

You can never really get a real effect unless you do the following:

a) Brush it yourself (probably need a tablet for this)
b) Use a stock photo texture as a base
c) Both

I've recently got into doing this sort of thing. The best site for this is www.deviantart.com, search the resources section.

I've also included a small sample here, shows how much a real texure makes a difference:

I know how to create textures, but thanks anyway.
I just was not in the mood to create "real" (urban) stuff so far. Plus it looks a bit trivial for me as most of the forums are full of it. Simply wanted to add something different and fantasy.
Yours looks like a basic stone/concrete texture and is good, so thanks for sharing it! If that's what the community wants, I may add that kind of stuff.
Hope to have more opinions and requests soon.
Cheers!

You people are so ignorant. Take a look at the website. The ones he showed here were not but some of his textures are top notch. Thanks for the free textures, this will save me some time.

Why are we ignorant?
We just said our opinion,
And Avid even gave him a little tutorial.

@darimc Thanks a lot!
At least someone has visited the website before posting
I see it's just you who have noticed that my style so far is a bit different from the basic "horror" and "urban" ones and I have created more sci-fi and fantasy textures.

Both of you asked this. The mini tutorial was nice but you two said they look bad and stuff. They're free. Saying they look too fake is not constructive. So if you don't have constructive criticism then please keep your fingers off the keys.

So now we cant post unless we have constructive crit?
Then why do you keep on posting?
You didnt said anything like how he can improve these or such.
And it is allowed to say your opinion.
If someone cant handle that...well then.
Then its not our problem.

Ice Cube.
Okey as for crits..

Well from the textures that i have seen.
I can say, it looks like you putted some filters.
And that was it actually.
I dont know what software you are using.
And i am not going to make a tutorial since you are not
waiting for one.

You can also edit some photos.
Mostly they are the ones who look the best.
But for handmade textures, it would be a lot
harder then throwing some filters on it.

Still dont stop because of us.
And good luck with the textures.

Cheers,
Cheese Cake.

I am using tons of free software from Microsoft Paint to Gimp.

Well, I don't mind if you post an advanced tutorial. I would be glad if I learn something I don't know, plus I think it would be helpful for the other FPSC users. So, you are welcome!
Quote: "And it is allowed to say your opinion."

Of course it is and I would be happy to hear it. The point was that you've judged the existing textures as they were some part of a horror/urban pack, which they aren't so far.

Cheers!

I have seen the other textures.
They are much better then these 3 ones.

As for the tutorial...Sorry cant help you with that.
I am using Photoshop, and never used Gimp.
So i dont know the possibilities of gimp.

And it wasnt meant harsh or such.
I thought i shall give you my opinion.
And maybe some "constructive" crit.

Cheers,

darimc,
Personal attacks on other forum members (like saying they are ignorant) will not be tolerated on the FPSC forums. You have been put on post approval status.

Ice Cube,
I haven't been to your site yet so I'll hold off on my opinions until I have.
Thanks for donating this to the FPSC community.

Please have mercy and use the search function.

That was not meant as a personal attack, I'm sorry if that's how it was taken. But I mean, they were basically calling his work rubbish based on the screens he put on this thread. He has hundreds more on his website. I'm sorry Fred and I won't do it again.

I don't see it as a personal attack too. This was just an opinion as theirs. Plus some of their comments were based on 1 texture and darimc just realized that and said it.
Of course I don't expect each user to like even 50% of the textures. Everybody has his own ideas and vision for 3d games and that's why there is a variety of textures on the website.
So you are free to download whatever you find useful.

Where do you want me to put it - in which category?
Do you have a *.tga version?

A 130 textures for 5 minutes...
Anyway, waiting for the *.tga.
Do you think I should add a different category for textures of other users? May be for those who want to contribute something for the community, even if they have or don't have their own website...

I'd keep the categories as is, maybe add some subcategories to make it easy to find specific images. I'd also add info such as credits etc, or make it so that all images posted must be free for at least non commercial use.

Nice, thanks! However this is supposed to be a wall texture, so if you create a wall with it the name will repeat "n" times in a row and on the exact same place. It will look a bit unreal, or as you like to say "fake"...
How about another texture like "wall_mid" or "wall_repeat"? And the first one will be "wall_end" or "wall_center".

@Avid, that's what I had in mind.
But I think it would be better to add a different category for all "donated" textures. It will fit better with the automatic PHP script I have created as all the links and images so far are generated dynamically (that's how I've programmed it).
Of course I will ad specific info like: Author, Licence (if there is any specific one), may be Website etc.
Of course this "user section" will be able to exist if we have enough textures.

So, is there anybody who wants to share his texture for free?

He/she will be credited of course.

I'll share some of mine when I've got them ready, need converting and zipping.

Edit: Here's an example of one I made this morning (can use it and it tiles to, free for commericial and non-commercial, just credit me).

Ok, so I will create a template for the user section of the website, where everybody will be able to share his own textures and will get a chance for something like a free advertisement for his/her work.
I'll post more details later.
@Avid, All I need is a *tga file for each texture and I'll do the rest (dds, jpg, zip...). Just let me know, when you are ready.

It doesn't load in IE. I think it's because of the CSS code. Is it hand coded or created with a visual editor?
Anyway I've just checked it with firefox and it's ok.
So, how about a link exchange?

Btw, is someone interested in his own .com?

No, they aren't for in-game use only and you can use them in any kind of non-comercial school project. For more details, please check the licence here: http://www.free-textures-tga.com/index.php?main=licence

For any exclusion from the licence agreement, you will have to contact me first.
