8 minutes before 1 hour before midnight, i came to relize you could make a radar in fpsc without changing the engine, or really hard scripting. infact, the scripts are already there. this radar would not show enemy movment, just yours. maybe this has already been thought of, but bear (BEAR, ha) with me.

find a script that displays a hud image when you step in a trigger zone.
make a bunch of images, in each one, make a layout of the map, and put a dot in a different spot in each one. you x pictures where x=the amount of little trigger zones spot in your level. for example, if you are the center of the level, your dot should be in the middle of the map. make another image with the dot slightly to the left, and put that trigger zone next to the center one

see where im going with this, sure it would be teatias as heck, but you could have a player and map radar.

or maybe, its just that im jacked on mountain dew caffine and its getting late.

It would work, but the work would outweigh the rewards I'm afraid. You're talking about making a HUD image and Trigger for basically each grid square on each level in a game. If you made a 20 level game, each 15x15 then you're talking about 4500 images and triggers.

Very nice thinking. This proves yet again that you shouldn't say it cannot be done in FPSC. If there's a will, there's a way.

Its been done before....im not sure who, but instead of each grid image, they used a new image for each room. I'm sure they will come forward when they see this thread though.

I thought of this a while back. A wee bit time consuming though.

yea, but it COULD be done. if you did it for rooms, then that narrows it down to. and in some games, you re use levels. and who has ever made a 20 level fpsc game?

Its funny this has been brought up, today I was thinking of a radar for a small project I want to use fpsc, its only for a small area so for me its not like thousands of images because the map is tiny. It has to show the enemy on the HUD, Is it possible to do a radar for the enemy?

Good question. The scripting Guru's around here should be able to answer that. You could use plrdistwithin=## to fire an event like a proximity warning on the hud instead of a dot.

One project that I am working on will have at least that many levels.

Please have mercy and use the search function.

I still don't get what's wrong with the radar you get when you're on debug mode and you run about an there's a map in the corner.

I don't know. My FPSC's broken. Go into the preferences and put all the debugging stuff on. It'll show those squares where you've been but theres a mini map in the corner. I'll try to take a look downstairs, hang on...

Yes, there is a mini-map there. To bad you can't activate it without debug mode
