3 Dimensional Chat / How Do you make Trails/Slashes

I'm working on my character in 3ds max. I'm just wondering how you create slashes or trails. Example making a sword slash. I don't think its particle even if so I wouldn't want to slow down the game using particles. If its polygons how the hell do you animate that? It would have to rotate at arms of sword axis. If you can understand.

Also how about an energy ball? My character turns into an energy ball. I don't want particles because it doesn't seem like they would do it that way in real games. not to say they don't use particles. I'm guessing they use a mesh with a texture and animate that texture scrolling.

Dude, firstly wrong forum (should be DB or DB-PRO or Newcomers, as strictly speaking this isnt 3D).

Swords slash's and trails are usually but not always done with programing. Using several primitives in succession you can simulate the effect your looking for. You could simply turn them on close to your sword, ghost them at a set distance and then turn them off or destroy them. Alternativly you could have a swoosh shaped object attached to your sword tip that you could retexture as it moves. There are several ways to do this.

As for the other energy ball.

prety much. an object with high luminosity and or varied texture can do this. If you can make an explosion you can make an energy ball.

Or you could texture a plain with a transparent slash texture, fade it in in front of the sword slash position, then fade it out.

Meh. Signatures. Lame :p

Hmm mebe someone needs to write a thread on how to *search*, I found these two in less than two mins.

When searching think outside the box. Write down 5 different ways you could ask the same question and then check all for key words that have repeated.

In this case I searched for *slash* as in the title, *sword* as in the main use of the topis to search for and *swipe*.

In less than 2 minutes I found several threads. take a look at these two. I didn't read them very carefully but they seem relivent.

look man, I appreciate your help a lot but Like I said I searched. I find it amazing how you would go out your way to try to make someone look like a fool. Which leads me to believe that your one of those people that just surfs the boards to just to tell people to use the search. Like I said I searched and didn't find what I was looking for.

I didn't search sword. Slash didn't work and that was what I was looking. I didn't think of swipe because it didn't come to mind. Slash seemed correct. Dude don't act like your perfect. I suggest you read the bible about the story of that stoning of that women/hooker or something. Type in Slash and you will see what I got.

The only thing more annoying then people that don't use the search button is the people that tell them to use the search button like their some kind of god. its always the same people.

I was just pointing out that it seemed that you didn't search very hard, again I'm sorry for that. And again I never said I was god or made any refrence to being better than anyone, for the most part my last post was a generalisation pointed at the mass of people that can't be bothered to use search or don't think when they use it.

Exactly how many times have you *ever* seen me to tell people to go search? I think I've said it 4 times and its been to people that have had no responce from anyone else regarding the thing they want to discuss. You mock me for including you in a generalised comment and then throw it back at the end of the post, pot calling the kettle black comes to mind.

Ultimatly I was trying to help. I even found 2 links for you. This is the reason why people just can't be bothered to help or make sugestions any more.
