Hi.

I'm looking for a transparent floor...so you can see what's in the room under your feet. I found such a floor @ FPSfree but it isn't that good. When you stand on it it depends on the angle you look. Sometimes you look under you but see nothing. So I'm looking for another glass floor you can see the actions one layer down with.

I may be wrong, but I don't think that FPSC will render the view to the floor below because it doesn't know that you can see it. I think fpsc just sees a floor and doesn't bother with anything below it?

I'm assuming the floor is transparent because it has a texture of RGB 0,0,0.

I somehow managed to do it with instaguys giant segment pack (Search for it) ceiling tile 3 I believe. I figured it out inadvertently. It seems to give a perfect transparent floor, but if you look up it appears to be a normal ceiling

You should use a floor segment sized entity.

The engine wont render dynamic entities under a transparent floor segment, but it will render dynamic entities behind a transparent static entity

So, what butter fingers means is that make like a static transparent crate and place it as a flooring. Kinda like Half-life 2 with that bonus items out it the middle of no where.

So you would have to take a leep of faith (Save first) and you land on nothing... In the sky... Indian Jones Style .

Thanks. I donĀ“t know what to make custom entities or segments. I cannot create them myself.
Could somebody help me please?

Nickydude, I checked this thread. This floor is the floor I was talking about in my first threat. When this floor is surrounded by other floors you don`t see the floor below but the "nofloor" texture that is shown before you paint something.

It only works when it is like that:

FFF
NGF

F = normal floor; N = nothing (hole in floor); G = glass floor (transparent);

N is next to G and only then can you see through G. But if you move your mouse and N is out of sight G changes. You don`t see the room below anymore but the "nofloor"-texture.

I really would love to have a glass floor so you can watch players below run around.

I have a Post in this same thread (Models & Media) and on the same page (page 1) at the moment which is called 'Invisible wall & floors...here'.

If you take a look at the Post you might find that it is what you are looking for.
They are not 'glass' but they are 'invisible' and with the floor segment you can view anything which is going on in the room below including any dynamic characters or objects.

But please remember when using the invisible floor segment, you must remove any previous floors in place already where you need to place the invisible floors.

I hope this helps you

Definitely go for Ross tra damus segments, they'll do the job.

Thanks, Ross, it works. I had some installation problems though. Because the installation is set to an English file structure. I realized that after some time...that the invisible folder was created in C:\Program files...but we don't use this folder in German speaking countries. We have c:\programme instead. My FPS is installed @ D:\Programme therefore I couldn't find the folder first. But now it works.

Nevertheless, I would like to modify it. Is this possible? Now it looks like a hole and the player doesn't know if this is a real hole in the floor or if he can tread on it. Therefore, some pixels or elements would be good to make it visible that it is a look through floor.

Ross tra damus, is it possible to slightly cloud the floor segment so it's about 98% transparent but the play can see that there's something there?

Not me personally, just asking if it can be done?

I've tried all sorts of methods before with this kind of segment but the problen is that whatever coloured pixels are present on one side of the segment, then they will be duplicated on the other side of the segment. When this happens the effect does not look so good at all but I'm sure there is some way of getting close to a good compromise.
I have found that you will have the same problems whether you use a segment or an entity as a transparent floor.
I will look into this further but in the meantime I can't help anymore than what I have said already but I'm sure there must be a workaround with this.

Good luck to all.

Wow, I have a solution how to get a see troughfloor that people don't mistake for a hole.
Thanks to Rosstradamus and xplosys it's possible.

1. Place Ross' invisible floor.

http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=115234&b=24

2. Place xplosys' ceiling grid on it.

http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=114163&b=24

3. Done!

You can see through it, walk over it...

MW24,

Very creative. I think SignsIV also has something like that.

Best.

I'm sorry, my answers are limited. You must ask the right question.

You know what, it actually looks quite cool doing it the way you have described.

Well done.

Experimenting with the media like you have done can certainly yeild great results.Keep up the good work.

All the best of luck
