I'm not sure if this has been posted before, but I think it's pretty useful:

monster = loadObject("monster.x")


function loadObject(filename as string)
   obj = findFreeObject()
   load object filename,obj
endfunction obj
   
function findFreeObject()
   for i = to 10000
      if object exist(i) = 0
          exitfunction i
      endif
   next i
endfunction i

It's just a function that will return the object number of the object you loaded, and it's stored in a variable.
