I know that 3D characters have animations for standing, walking, running, swimming, dying, etc, but what if I want to have a 3D character sit down on a chair? For example, I have a 3D character under my control going into the living room and sitting down on a sofa to watch TV.

There is a swimming animation actually, which surprised me. If you could somehow suspend the entity in some water and play the animation, you could have them treading water in it.

it is worth mentioning that the sitting animation is not brilliant. it tends to look as though characters are sitting in mid air.

I think that the sitting script is for AI characters, not player-controlled characters.

...absolutely true. It's better than nothing, and best suited for a map where the player doesn't get too close to the sitting model, as the foot/hand positioning looks a bit funny.

...this is correct. It creates the illusion of a static, sitting AI character.
