Hey all,

I just wanted to let everyone know that i am currently working on a Fighting game and i hope to have it done soon, now keep in mind this is only going to be a test Fighting game with two Characters, one level and each of them will have their own individual moves. Mainly this is just to see what i can do with an actual game engine, and i ask for opinions on this once i'm done and get a third party view on whether i should keep working on this or not, but i do think this will be fun, so i guess consider it a demo, so keep checking back on this post to stay updated.

He means that for your first project this is COMPLETELY out of your depth, and you'll look stupid if you keep it the way it is.

Well, what I would say is...

If this is your first game with no prior programming knowledge or 3D graphics knowledge, then it will be very difficult to get done - once you've got enough experience and know what you need to do then I would say go ahead and do it. Most first projects tend to be simpler so that you can learn to walk before you run...catch my drift?

By all means don't throw away your ideas/plans if this is the case or something similar to the case, because you can alway return later.

Also, this post has little relevance in '3D Chat' - 3D Chat tends to home people who do 3D graphics 'Game Design theory' is where these sort of threads appear. But it's probably a bit late for that now.

Also, regarding other people's comments, we get a lot of people making threads with little detail, announcing projects or such like when they aren't experienced or show no evidence of such a capability or project and well it often looks foolish amongst those in the community.

Anyway, I'd advise, try somethings simple, like a maze game or a pong clone or something along those lines - then move up a stage until you feel confident with more complex projects - this certainly was a mistake I made when started to make games, so I'd learn from my mistake. (I've used DB since early 2004 without a finished project to my name)

Okay first of all this is not my first attempt, i did get a little FPS going and if i'm not believed well leave it at that you have a right to your opinions, second of all i work in Autodesk Maya and have the proper plugin to get things to work and i have been working with Maya since version 4.5 and that was out 3 or 4 years ago can't quite remember, hop on Sheezyart.com and search Firos12 and check out my stuff, third of all your making me feel stupid Fourth i think the issue is here is people are to used to those who Don't know what there doing and posting things like this, and you use that to make the person whos trying to get stuff to work and get a little credit for trial and error look like the little guy just waiting to be stepped on. Honestly these type of things lower a persons motivation to the point where they don't want to try it out and completely cause them to loose all hope and just think of failure so they won't even try. So yeah i'm going to keep going with this and Try i never used the word successful until now.

Not intentionally on my part. Just pointing advice based on the content and nature of the thread, as we get these sort of threads and they always turn out to be people ahead of themselves announcing a project idea with little evidence of their capability - but by all means feel free to go out and discuss your ideas and ask for feedback (then my advice would be to post in Game Design theory and provide more information on it and offer a point of discussion in your ideas if you need them), this just seemed more like a project announcement that isn't done enough to merit it's announcement.

As for the rest of the comments, a little over reaction - I am not here to shoot you down or anything like that, not to lower your self esteem or anything like that. You say you have previous experience, great! Then my previous advice isn't of much use that, other than the golden rule of doing what you know you can do, which is pretty obvious (but you wouldn't imagine how many people set themselves unrealistic tasks).

However, lemme put it this way, you've announced your project way to early for your thread to be of any use - to avoid 'loose' threads we tend to what threads that have things to discuss, at the moment, you've just told us of a project you're just starting, you've not given anything to us to discuss that's of any use - hence we have a 'Work in Progress project thread' set of requirements - these ones of course go in the WIP section, basically you need a chunk of the project to show you've worked on it, show it in screenshots at a size we can see what's going on and they need to be comment worthy - with info of the project as a minimum. Keeps the place clean from those I described, you know, ones that can go as bad as 'My ultimate MMORPG'.

Just remember, nobody here is to oppress you, some may leave bad comments or things that may intimidate you, but as a community, we like to help and offer advice, not to shoot you down for mistakes/slip ups, because that would make us a bunch of nancies who deserve to be shot.

again not intentionally being disrespectfull, but yes sounds more like a Work In Progress (WIP), and as stated you'll probably get much the same response in there if you don't have some screen shots or something to show that you actually have work in progress. In which case you would need to post in the Game Theory area.

Well i will move to the Game Design Theory and deliver what i have, i've been working on a short design page to get the keys features delivered, after this page is done (Which should be shortly) so check back on the Game Design Theory board i'm guessing i should be done here soon, i'm sorry if i seemed obscene about this so check back in a bit on the Design Theory Board. But i will Model out an Arena and post screenshots here, and on the Theory Board i will be using Maya for my content since i know that program the most out of others.

Why was this post even needed? On the extremely off chance that you do get a semi-decent WIP going, you could have made a post at that time and surprised us, instead of posting this way, WAY too early in advance and having it inevitably sink to the bottom of this board in no time if it doesnt burn to death from flames. If on the more likely note this goes down as one of the starter projects never completed and talked of again, you've just made a "come look at my sweet idea that i never ended up finishing" post that so many users seem to make. Either way the post doesnt do any good for you.

You didnt even post your idea, you posted that you had an idea, and to keep an eye out for it.

All of this, in the wrong board, and then double posted in a different board.

Ruccus what are you talking about? this wasn't double posted and how can you even begin to judge me on this when you have absolutely no clue of what i'm going to do it's your type of person that pisses me off really, go ahead say it won't be done if it makes you feel better but keep in mind i'm not a helpless person who thinks nothing will get done, you know what i'm not even going to bother with people like you anymore your just a waste of my time that i could use building my game check back here in a few months i guarantee you'll see it on here somewhere check the code base in a few months and see what you'll be apologizing for Ruccus everyone else is cool with me. I can use their advice.

Locking this, as it's really not the right place and you've already shifted to the theory board.

Good luck with the project Firos, DBPro is a pretty good language for fighting games yet nobody really tries to make them here.

We're going down... in a spiral to the ground...
