When i try to run it i get an unhandled error though, saying it is 'trying to read or write protected data. This is often a sign that data is corrupt'

Here are the details:

I have .net framework 2.0

XP Media Center Edition, SP2
1 GB Ram
Pentium 4, 3.4GHz

Maybe it's a .NET issue. I try to install Net 2.0, and the installer says that it cannot install because it is "incompatible with a previously installed" version.

For this error you need to UNBLOCK the creator.exe and editor.exe and both text files in the programs directory. To UNBLOCK them, right click on them and select properties. Then click on UNBLOCK. XP SP2 will usually automatically put a block on downloaded .exe files to protect your computer. I had the exact same error when I tried to start the program, but it runs fine after UNBLOCKing the files.

I just downloaded the individual .DLL I needed, and now it works fine. Nice work with this, it'd be awesome to see an export to .DBO or .X feature.

Wow this is great!

Is there a way to draw, by hand, layers of textures on the terrain?

these dlls are online free, very easy to find doing a general search, but i'll post them for you just extract and add to the same folder as the program.

I found that I needed these two dlls for a couple different programs I have. Dark Lights needed them.

I agree with tatts, if this thing can't export, than what's the use? It would be something like gMax.

Edit: Alright, I found a way to save them. Just create any bitmap file and then go to work on your terrain. Once you're done, to export it, just press export and save it over the random bitmap file, and it'll do it. It seems there's no drop-down file type selector available, but this method works for me. Feel free to respond to this.

Thanks for the kind words guys.

It looks like I need to add an extension to the save as box, for the time being add the extension yourself in the filename text box.

I have another question, is it possible to make detail maps with Landscape Creator? Perhaps something equivalent that will let me texture specific parts of the terrain. I'm aware that this is possible with rgb colors, but textures are a lot more useful.

It's not a feature of the advanced terrain in DBPro, the detail texture is just tiled across the terrain.

I know, I'm referring to Landscape Creator. Make no mistake, I think this thing is awesome, but I'm just trying to figure out if it's able to create detail maps like I've seen some others do. Tiling textures and the base texture just can't compete with a detail map, but since this is free, I'm not complaining.

Unfortunately not.

Agreed the feature wasn't included in Landscape Creator since advanced terrain wouldn't be able to display it once imported into DBPro.

The advanced terrain in DBPro is different to a normal .x model that other editors export in that it has dynamic culling of unseen portions of the terrain.

This is a very nice editor. thanks for releasing it for free. i was in fact trying to develop something like it myself, but then I used that search function.

I was wondering, is there a way to export the positions of the objects that I loaded. I tried looking for it but i couldn't find it. thanks a lot.
