Got a question. What advantages do these drivers give my computer?

I am using a Trident 3D Blade Graphics Card.

They allow you to run DX9 games. Ie. Most of the games being released soon.

DirectX9 Drivers?
You have DirectX9 APi which is now the core system within WindowsXP that manages and makes sure all of the drivers comform to the same system (essentially making them 100% compatible) ... but i'm not sure you can get drivers of it.

the runtime will completely change the backbone of your OS, which is why it cannot be uninstalled without going back to a restore point prior to installation - and even if you do it is like ServicePack1 in XP, alot of programs my just cease to work.

DirectX 9.0a actually is 3 APi's in one though, becuase you have the DirectX7 Interface - DirectX8 Interface and the DirectX9 Interface.
Each are there to ensure maximum compatibility with all DirectX range games past-present-future ... and it gives a pretty awesome speed boost for most cards with it installed.
However if i were you i'd actually splash out a few quid on getting a new GFX card like a GeForceFX 5200 as the Trident3D is a DirectX5 card and extremely underpowered for anything you would want to use now. It only has the minimum of DirectX Inteface functions available to it, basic MipMapping abilities, no T&L, very basic HAL and if i remember right only 4/8mb of onboard ram ... for todays games i wouldn't recommend anything less than 32mb.

Trouble is that my motherboard doesn't have an AGP slot!
I do have 4 PCI slots though, can I do anything with them?

well depends what your willing to spend... there arn't any PCI versions of GeForce anymore, however you can get the Quadro4 & QuadroFX cards in PCi form - really they're ment to be used as SLi addon cards, but if you can afford them they'll certainly really boost you computers power.

Though to be hones i'd recommend you checkout Watford Electronics as you should update your system a little for atleast an AGP 2.0 Socket

How much are the QuadroFX cards ? I've got a computer that wont take the new AGP graphics cards (as its badly designed), and I dont have a saw to chop off the spikey bit at the end of the card (otherwise the AGP cards would fit). Ergo, I need a PCI graphics card.

A saw blade will cost pence and it will only take a couple of minutes, is it really worth the effort of seaching for a pci card?

Arrrgghhhh for anybody going to install DX9

DONT!!!!!!

seriously,
my fps on gta: vice city dropped by 15 on average after installing...
Hitman 2 wouldnt work at all, neither would bloodrayne.

its not totaly backwards compatible yet so you might find ure best games dont work or get laggy.

im running a GeForce4 Ti (4X AGP) AMD XP 2200+ with 786megs DDR 2700.

wait till you have a card which fully supports DX9 AND untill they have time to iron out all the bugs and glitches.

its not easy to uninstall so be prepared if you do decide to install it.

I've had no speed increases or decreases - DX9 exists and works - thats all I can say about it.

I've got a Ti4800, Ti4200 and a GeForce2 MX, and they all work fine.

my 4200Ti, 4800Ti & GeForceFX nv30 all got HUGE speed increases when i upgraded to Dx9 ... more on the 2D than 3D side of things though.

most noticeable in games that use the unreal2 engine actually, as my 4200Ti system went from 60-70fps in America's Army Online to 130fps.
Probably more a case of only accellerating those games which have already got Dx9 support, as my Dx8.1 & 7(or below) got little to no added speed.

Along with the new DetonatorFX drivers, i've got alot of games which go like a bat out of hell now - and 3D Mark i gained between 1,000-2,000 points for each of my GeForce

as for the price of the QuadroFX ... currently i only know of one company that sells them - i know there's more but i only know of one that sells the entire range.

PNY ... which is where i get mine
http://www.pny.com

they produce some sweet and very stable hardware

I experienced a minimal speed increase - but it really depended on the task and the GFX card.

Regardless of the other issues, you NEED DX9 to play the latest games or run DBP P5.

Just done the run around and finally upgraded all of my PCs to DX9, one experienced a 10FPS increase in the DBP demos - Another only got 2FPS more. Swings and roundabouts.
