Hey! Well, my Airport Simulation project as been transformed into and AirLINE Simulation now. Still on the fence about whether to use DBPro or not s if anyone has any advice about the follow thoughts, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

First, the sim will be entirely 2D - mostly a business management setup with about 90% or more being nothing but data manipulation with arrays, types, etc. A large chunk of that is already written out. Ever played AirPro or Airline? Similar interface and display concept. Here's my big issue - everything I've planned so far is do-able in DBPro (or is it?). I want to be able to have some drop down menu lists (like about 5 one word selections) and scrollable list boxes - these would be used to list all your aircraft and flights in a list format that you would scroll through and select one to view the details of on another screen. Is this something that DBPro will handle efficiently, or would something like Visual Basic be more suited to this type of software? Any input would be great, as well as any code or examples of how to go about implimenting those concepts.

Thanks again!

Rob K has done a drop-down menu list.
Scrollable list boxes haven't been done, and would be rather tricky in VC...

Good news everyone! I really am THAT good...
http://www.nickk.nildram.co.uk/ for great plug-ins - oh my, yes!

If your game is mostly stat based, you would probably be better of with a language that had some kind of visual GUI builder. Like Visual C++ or Visual Basic.

You could do it yourself in Dark Basic, but if you only need simple 2D GFX, why not do it as a standard windows app?

If you need menus, check my plugin, for list boxes, I think you'll have to code that yourself.

If you want windows style menus in a windowed environment with inflexible window boxes and windows colours and urgh, I could go on - but in that case you could use VisualBASIC.

If you want menu's that conform to the style and character of your game though - then use DBPro - something like this perhaps:

RobK - I'll have to check out what you've got.

Thanks all - I think I may be going for the windows environment which will most likely mean Visual Basic instead of DBPro Oh well. Just when I was getting really comfortable with the demo compiler too.

Thanks again!

OOH! Actually, I just finished writing a little something that may just do the trick for me, instead of scrolling lists. Anyway, maybe I WILL go with DB. One more quick - IMPORTANT question, though: Am I correct in assuming that the original Dark Basic does NOT support TYPES? I'd try, but both my demos have just expired
I NEED to use TYPES in my arrays. The plus is that DB is available at my local computer store, but if it doesn't support TYPES, then I will have to order DB Pro over the web, as the whole program hinges on using them to structure my data. I've tried re-writing it to use the standard indices, but it gets ugly.

Only DBPro supports types, DBV1 does not, but I believe you can have types in DBV1 using the DarkEDIT editor, which has special preprocessor functions to facilitate this.

That's true, but sometimes it misses things it should change.

I always found that wrapping extra spaces around the stuff that should get changed gave it all a fighting chance to work.

I just found that in the DarkEdit options sections. Now that I just bought DarkBasic at CompUSA, I'll have to try it out! I guess I should post over in that forum now - thanks again!

I've just added List Boxes to my beta GUI DLL (not available yet), and they worknicely. Combo boxes are giving me a few headaches so I'll probably use edit boxes+list boxes rather than in-built ones.

Rob, I cant get your link to work
the page loads, but the link on the page doesn`t.

I` have written my own drop-down-lists system, its a little `cluncky`, but works fine for what I need it for!

I`ll post it here, but there IS a LOT of variables that may be akward for you to understand, especially the L_1_2 kinda ones ( they`re used for location of the lists on the screen, and the location of they`re contents)

I`m pretty sure there is a better way of doing this, but as my project on only a map editor, speed is not really an issue!

Actually, I have a whole routine in my head now for making a list-box of sorts. If it works, I'll post it up, in case anyone's interested. It will be tailored to my particular program, but will be easily modifiable.
