I got DBPro Tuesday, Installed it and when I run the examples they run at 2fps! Here's my spec, maybe you may be able to figure it out or suggest a remedy.

AMD Duron 1.3GHz
256 MB RAM
8MB Trident 3D Blade Accelerator (running at 128MB)
40GB Hard Drive
Onboard Sound

Thanks in advance for any help.

First, have you installed the 4.1 patch?

Next, what exactly do you mean by '8MB Trident 3D Blade Accelerator (running at 128MB)'? Is it an 8MB or a 128MB card?

Sounds like an integrated GPU on the motherboard sharing system RAM, it's never going to be fast but even a Trident chipset should achieve more than 2fps.

Do install patch 4.1 to begin with, that makes a huge difference. Also the editor update would not hurt.

IanM: It's an 8MB chip but the Aperature Size is 128MB.

PneumaticDryll: Install the patch? Would the patch be able to be compressed to floppy size? I don't have a CD-RW Drive. The computer that has DBPro isn't connected to the Internet either.

I suppose you could use WinZip to span the archive across several floppies - 7 disks should do it.

Or you could set up your own network - two £10 network cards and a £5 crossover cable would get you up and running.

Or even, get yourself an appropriate serial or parallel cable and use one of the free versions of Laplink from a cover-CD to transfer the patch across.

Your graphics card is far from speedy, but yes Patch 4 would help ALOT if you've literally just installed out the box. Like has already been said, Winzip can span accross disks

2FPS? Thats not right, even for the above spec. Three suggestions. First, make sure you've installed your latest Trident video Drivers, either from the supplied CD that came with your machine, like what normally comes with a new motherboard with onboard AGP video. I would suggest you get the latest drivers from your motherboard manufacturer's website.

Secondly, make sure that you have installed the latest version of DirectX, either v8.1 or v9 for assurance.

Thirdly, make sure that 3D Hardware acceleration is enabled. This can normally be done by running "c:\program files\directx\setup\dxdiag.exe" and enabling Hardware Acceleration on the Display property pages of the diagnostic program, although this should already be switched on if your video drivers are installed correctly.

Aside from this, I can't think of any other reason why your FPS rate is so slow! Best of luck though

Yeah I know it's weird! I've got Direct X 9, so no probs there.
Hardware Acceleration I think is switched on, I'll check on that. Trident drivers? I'll check that now, back in a sec.

Right, I think there are some drivers for it, I'll have to try and download the patch and the drivers sometime soonish. If anyone can come up with any more helpful advice, much obliged. Cheers to everyone at present, I'll try some of the suggested ideas 2nite.

IanM: Networking I think is out of the question due to the fact that the computer with the Internet is downstairs and my computer is up in my room, also I don't think my mum would be too pleased with more cables all over the house, the computer spec for the downstairs computer is this: (lol if u wanna, I think the spec's awful but my mum doesn't want to get a new one UNFAIR!)

Pentium MMX 166MHz
128MB RAM
4MB Accelerated Graphics chip
Soundblaster Sound Card
3.2GB Hard Drive

Bluetooth... what about it? My computer downstairs doesn't even have USB, don't have any spare ports, if I add anything else it'll probably have a meltdown!

Semaphore? It sounds like the machine is old enough to support it

I think you should go with the floppy disks
