Is there a difference between floors and ceilings? When I place either floor or ceiling it's the same. And the floor of layer 2 is automatically the ceiling for layer 1.

Or can I have two different ones?

Leander - Signs allows you to create rooms with a seperate ceiling. The way it works is two segments are created and then placed at different heights. So, you see a different texture for the ceiling. This is the way I found that fpsc did ceilings with their standard segments. Such as Armoury Ceiling.fps

Also, I have found that if you want to have transparent ceilings, that using an entity works better if you have segments above.

I don't know how Firma does ceilings maybe Nickydude can shed light on that.

Terry, I hope you didn't take that the wrong way! Signs is excellent and I wouldn't be without it! I didn't realise that you could have different floor / ceiling in Signs, I assumed that if you created a ceiling and then put another segment on top the ceiling would change to the floor above. I stand corrected.

Go with Signs.

Nickydude - no problem, you just didn't answer his original question.
I just searched on firma and it appears that he has created a single floor segment that allows multiple textures.

It's been updated to V1.2 which allows multiple floor / ceiling textures on segments.

The difference is that the ceiling usually has 2 meshes (which means 2 textures) and is classified as an external. The floor uses just 1 mesh and 1 texture.

Btw, you can still have the same effect by using either floor or ceiling and that's why I usually use a room segment and the "F" button when creating a ceiling.

I've only just spotted this thread or I would have spoken up sooner. Firma uses two Floor segments at slightly different heights to create the floor\ceiling segment. This allows you to use two different textures, one for the upper (floor) segment and a different one for the lower (ceiling) segment. This is similar to the way that FPSC seems to handle the floor\ceiling segment except that FPSC uses a floor segment and a ceiling segment instead of two floor segments. This ceiling segment uses a 1024x1024 sized texture but only uses a randomly selected quarter of this texture each time the ceiling segment is placed so that you end up with a randomly patterned ceiling. When I wrote Firma I decided it would be easier to do without this randomness which is why I use two floor segments to create the floor\ceiling.
