I'd like to retexture one of the broken segments that came with model pack 8 (I'd like to create a gaping hole in the road). How? I've made segments before but never retextured an existing one, I know I change this line:

texture0 = texturebank\scifi\floors\carpet\F_w_01_d2.tga

but what else do I need to do?

Thanks.

You could just edit the existing texture and save with same name,F_w_01_d2.tga, but backup b4

or

point that line to the texture you want!

think thats right

Thanks X. I'd like to make a completely new copy so I'm not overwriting the existing one. Could I just copy and rename the 4 files (in this case):

Carpet-broken.bin
Carpet-broken.bmp
Carpet-broken.dbo
Carpet-broken.fps

to, say:

Broken-road.bin
Broken-road.bmp
Broken-road.dbo
Broken-road.fps

and change the texture line? Or will it still be trying top find the correct textures in either the .bin or .dbo? (can you tell I don't know much about them! lol.)

Well, just make the retexture and use the stock meshes to create a new segment. You can use the Segment Editor for that.

Just copy the whole set of files for the existing segment, rename them all to the new one, and edit the texture, easy... supposedly.

Nope, tried that, segment doesn't show.

In which case, just (so long as it's not by a wall) create the ground segment as an entity with a hole in.

It may work only if you put the new files in the same directory (never tried that indeed). Otherwise the *.fps file will not "recognize "the path to the meshes, textures etc.

@Nickydude, why don't you follow my advice - it's the easiest way and saves time as well.

Just open the segment in Segment Editor (or other available software) and apply the new texture. Save it in your own folder (in "segments") and copy this folder in "C:\...\segments". That's it.
You can also use the mesh to create an entity...

Don't copy the .dbo or .bin files. They will be created for you. You just need the .fps and your texture file.

Just do what you were doing originally but get rid of the dbo and bin files.

it's true. Just forgot to mention that. FPSC will automatically generate *.dbo files and Segment Editor - *.bin and *.bmp (thumbs)
