Hi All
I used to use "basic" in the 80's, turned to pascal and was put off (probably due to my wild teenage years or the seriousness of pascal programming or the limitations of computers in thoese days)

So when I heard about Dark basic I was very interested, I've a few questions...

I want to make simple but fun games. I use Poser7 (and blender but I'm not great with blender yet) for animation / modelling, what format do I need to export the characters I've made in poser into Dark Basic.

Video. If I'm making a racing game. Can I import video backgrounds for the tracks / scenery?

What should I get Dark Basic or Dark Basic Pro?
I also saw the "3D Game maker" which is very appealing because of its zero knowledge of programming. Can 3D Game maker do what I want?

I want to be able to sell my games. I believe this isn't a problem with Darkbasic. If 3D Game maker is suitable for my game programming and I decide to buy the license will the price of the game or the 1 game license be deducted from the price of the unlimited game license if I decide to purchase the unlimited game license?

Thanks in advance

Welcome .

.3DS, .x, or .dbo, where .dbo > .x >.3DS.

Quote: "Can I import video backgrounds for the tracks / scenery?"

Yes .

Quote: "What should I get Dark Basic or Dark Basic Pro?"

Definitely DB Pro.

No, it's very limited.

Not sure, but I suggest not getting 3D Game Maker if you want to make any kind of decent game .

Actually, export as .x, and then convert into a .DBO within an executable using the SAVE OBJECT command. You can't export directly as .DBO as this is DarkBASIC's own format.

Try X-Quad editor instead. This requires no knowledge of programming, but should you need to you could alter it at the DBPro level. I strongly recommend it for the ease of use (as easy as 3D Gamemaker) and its editability (as powerful as DBPro)

I can't be bothered to invent a signature

I'll check out X-quad for sure as I was just about to get 3D Game maker anyway (I was just about to pay $249 for the Beginner's Guide to DarkBASIC Game Programming but I found it on ebay for £10 so i got a little spare cash)
I need something to make a game quickly so I thought 3d game marker was the one since it's made by the same company

Thanks a lot for all your help and advice

Don't assume that you NEED to buy any plug-ins - buy the base language, get a terrain editor for you to lay out your tracks, then get to know the language as it is. Then you can see what else you need to do your game and can target your purchases appropriately.

Until recently, the only official plug-in I had was BlueGui. I've just recently bought DarkPhysics & DarkShader. None of the other plug-ins interest me much (sorry to the authors), so I haven't bought them. Anything else I needed I wrote myself, and have given away for others to use (I take suggestions too).

Utility plugins collection and
http://www.matrix1.demon.co.uk for older plug-ins and example code

With DBP all you really need is 3DWS, blender/milkshape (not 3D Canvas, I've heard it's not great), and an image editing program (not paint, something like photoshop) .
