Hey all,

Right I've got a bit of a problem. I'm working on a 3rd person shooter in DBP and for speed, all my scenery objects are actually limbs of a master object (this seems to make things a fair bit faster). Last time I ran it, under patch 4 I believe, it worked fine. I've been working on other stuff for a bit and patched up to 4.1, now when I go back to my game and run it, the scenery disappears unless I'm looking at the master object. Also bits of my mech disappear when their origin points go off-screen. I know this used to happen in an earlier version, but didn't under Patch 4 at least. I'm guessing it's some form of optimization to stop the engine having to draw needless polygons? Question is, is there any way to turn it off/control it as it's being a bit too liberal with it's effects! Any other thoughts on this issue would be most welcome

Cheerz,

That's the code that creates the scenery, the master object is positioned at 0,0,0 so the limb offsets and heights relative to the ground can be calculated easily, ROCKMESHNUM was used to randomly pick between a few diff meshes but it's disabled for now, aside from that the rest is fairly simple I think

Care to expand on what you mean by 'master limb' please mate?

your efforts would be better well spent sending a copy of this information, a screenshot or two of the problem and a isolate example with media to [email protected]

He will be able to tell you if there will be options to improve it or other methods to handle the many objects.

Perhaps when the zone based commands come in (hopefully patch 5) you could effectively just display the players zone plus any within a square or with connecting visual tunnels(eg: see through 3 zones because of open doors etc..)

just a few suggestions..
1) run updater.exe manually (sometimes autopatching doesn t work fully for some reason
2) glue object to limb makes object to disappear, maybe add limb does the same , i have never tried it..
3) if one of the object limbs is not UV mapped and textured the whole object will disappear
4) what s the problem and difference in loading the limbs as objects and position them relative to the main object instead of adding as limbs and offsetting them?

Thanks Scorpyo I could give that lot a try If I do each piece of scenery as a seperate object it slows the game down, espeically when there are shots winging about as it detects collision via the OBJECT INTERSECT command. For some reason it runs a lot better if they're all added as limbs of one object :-s Right now I've gone back to patch 4 as I need to test a bug fix for someone, but I may try a manual update sometime soon, thanks
