I think it has to do with fluctuations in the power supply of your computer, or otherwise with variations in solar spots.

More probable is that the games are not built for your computer. Most games are quite old. Try the Starwraith games, those should work. If those don't work, something is wrong.

There are two versions of DB. Games written with which one?

This is a vague question and impossible to answer as you've given us next to no info to work on. We are not mind readers!

For example, do you get any error messages?

What version of DirectX are you using? (DBP requires the latest version of DX9, whereas DBC only requires DX8, but still works fine if you have DX9 installed so it's better to install that regardless of the version of DB you are using.

Do your own DBC programs work OK?

How old is your computer? If it's really old then you may have a GFX card which doesn't support the features of DX you need for the game you are trying to run.

In future, please supply as much info as you can for us to answer your questions.

You Dont Know What A Video Memory Is And Yet You Are Using DarkBASIC a programing tool. I think you should learn about these things before you start programming. Because Without the knowledge about these things you will face problems in every step.

Just visit Wikipedia and start learning..Its never to late.

Is that your system RAM, or on-board video memory? They are two completely different things.

Such as on this computer, system RAM is 256 (Not my comp, my parents, mine crashed a while back.) And video card is 256 AGP. Same number, but can differ.

On my sister's comouter, it is 256 Video Memory, and 2.5 GB System Memory.

Ed222 ,

I think You Should Test Both Your Video Memory and System Memory.
On your control panel there is a icon named SYSTEM. Click it and you will get the informations from there.

Dont trust your computer's seller cause sometime they just lie about these things....

Bat out of hell, you are just as much a n00b as ed222

Please Refrain From Capping Every Word, It Is N00by And Very Annoying

Ed222, those specs should run DB games just fine. Run Dxdiag and check your directX version

As much as I was first sceptical of bat out of hell, I think he is one of the better programmers here.
So don't call him a N00b, or you may get a call.

This on it's own suggests that you are using an integrated chipset which shares system RAM. As you probably have 512MB, the GFX card is set to 8MB - probably in the bios. This is a ridiculously small amount of memory for DirectX graphics these days...

Being an Acer (laptop I presume?) you don't have the option of putting a 'proper' GFX card instead of the naff Intel one, so I suggest you go into the bios (or Acer's supplied Setup utility) and set the GFX card to something a little more reasonable - like 32MB or 64MB. Basically, select the highest number you can choose!

I think I got it now some of the show case games are quite old and may have crashed on the server or they designed it on another older/newer system than windows xp (cuz I'm using xp) so the game might work on their computer but not ours anyways thanks for helping.
