As the title says I am having problems with blender.
I make a model, UV map it and everything but sometimes when I perform and action after being in blender a long time it just crashes and takes with it 1-3 hours of work. It's getting really frustrating.

INFORMATION:
- I am running windows XP professional SERVICE PACK 2
- Blender is version 2.4.3 as far as I know, when I open blender the little logo at the top says blender 243
- I am not overloading polys at all or having more than one UV map

EDIT: confirmed as version 2.43

Kieran,

If you are loosing 1-3 hours worth of work then your work flow is bunk and you should really incorporate a more solid work ethic.

There are a couple of reasons for Blender to crash, Blenders latest version is 2.45 this version was created with python version 2.5. You need to save all your model files and then install the latest blender and python.

I don't generally get in to high poly modeling but I do use multi UV maps fairly often and this has not had any adverse effect on blender.

The most important thing you can do right now is get a solid work ethic nailed down. You should get in the habit of saving about every 5-10 minutes especially when you are working with uvmaps.

Cheers,
Dave

Okay, i'll try it.

As for the "work ethic" please explain what you mean by that.
And I do save frequently sometimes but when i'm having fun time flies by and before I know it an hour is gone and it crashes.

the cool thing about blender is once you save the file the first time it should save every 5-15 minutes. Well if you are busting your bum on a model and texture it only makes sense to manually save the file several times during the course of your session.

Cheers,
Dave

You have to set the interval yourself, just pull down the menu bar at the top and hit the auto save button. You can tell it to keep a series of saves, 10, for example, that are saved at intervals of 5 minutes or whatever you choose.

I think if you save manually, the older saves are thrown out, unless you tell it not to.
I learned to use it after ruining my work then working on oblivious for several days, until the crucial moment I found out that I was a halfwit...

Also, I'm not 100% sure, but I think one of the latest versions of Blender had some trouble exporting correctly to DBP, so I'm using normally one version behind the latest - anyone else found this to be the case?

I wish I knew what I were doing!

Yes. Set the interval. Just kidding. That is a very good hint.

That does not happen to me, because I never work for three consecutive hours and I press Control+S automatically. I do not even notice when I save the work. ^^
