Hi,

I used to use Dark Basic Pro without problems for quite a while. However, I recently had some trouble with my second hard drive (where DBPro was installed), and needed to re-format and re-install. Now DBPro wont run correctly.

If I put the disk in I get the splash screen as normal, and I choose to run Dark Basic. But then it just forgets about itself. In the process viewer I can see a temporary file, with a random name, is opened first, then closed. But there is no sign of DB.

However, if I tyr to open one of DB's associated project files, DB will launch. Though it will launch with a new blank project and no the project file I double clicked. I can then open any project I want through File...Open, and use DB as normal.

Every other program I have re-installed works fine. Its just DB thats not working. Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this?

...And before any one suggests it (because someone always does), I have already tried uninstalling and re-installing DBPro

Uninstall DBPro, and complete remove the Dark Basic subdirectories.
Delete all temporary directories.
You will also probably need to remove the registry entries as well. After that, try-reinstalling

Good news everyone! I really am THAT good...

It didn't work.

Though I have noticed that it is the "Launch.exe" program that is not working. I can open the "editor.exe" no problem.

What does launch.exe do?

Launch.exe doesn't say anything. It just loads the splash form, then stops doing anything.

...not that it matters now anyway. I discovered last night that althrough I can get to the editor by running editor.exe, I cant actually save anything I write. DB Pro turned out to be a waste of £50. It wont run any 3d programs on my laptop, and the desktop just wont run it anymore. :p

Guess Ill be making 2D games from now on.

The problem has lasted a good few weeks now.
Dark basic must be doing something unusual that most programs do not do when they load or save. Otherwise I would have this problem with other software I have had to re-install. But so far, only Dark Basic refuses to run.

I have occasionally received an uninstall error regarding a temporary file that cannot be created. But usually I can uninstall and repair without errors.

well as i said, try the new launch.cfg i posted (the spelling mistake is within the cfg not my handy word btw lol) ... i found that it was a problem with that file and the registry that caused my problems with the launch app.

saving this

as something.reg and running it will restory the registry details - ofcourse changing the data as nessisary, no point in using it straight if you installed to E:\ now is there lol

Ok...now it works.

Unfortunately raven, your suggestion didn't work. Sorry.

Instead I removed everythig again and installed to a completely different hard drive.

Though I would rather have it on the original drive since this is the one with the most free space.

Oh well. At least I can write programs with it now.

Thanks all.
