Here is a preview of my new texture pack. I need your opinions on it. Do you like it? How much should it cost? How many should it include? They will be 512x512.

Interesting, are using woodwork shop by any chance? seems that you and the innovator are both using it...

They look like standard filters for that program.

Cheers,
Dave

I started to use it again as soon as I saw innovator's pack. These ones use standard filters but not all the textures will. But what do you guys think?

Honestly, if you can come up with some interesting variations, you may be able to get that for a pack. Otherwise, I'm not sure why anyone would pay for textures made with a free program.

Not trying to rain on your parade; just stating the obvious.

I will make some good variations. And you used wood workshop for your ww2 base textures.

Yes I did, but they were wrapped around models that I created. I also made a free pack of wooden textures using Wood Workshop; would you like a link to it?

Yes I would. But you should probably re-word what you said. That means you wouldn't buy a pack if some one used gimp or paint.net.

Paint.net and GIMP are 2D graphic editing programs, not texture generators (like Wood Workshop and it's "commercial" cousin, Genetica); there's a difference. A wood texture created in the GIMP would be a bit more difficult to make, versus a program that generates a seamless wooden texture based on a few pieces of input from the user.

However, if the texture generating program was something you had to buy (like the full Genetica, or a few Alien Skin filters), then it would be worth some money (depending on quality, etc.).

Exactly what should I "re-word"?

Here's the link to my free Wood Texture Pack. It's been downloaded quite a bit from both my site, the3DStudio.com and Turbosquid. I'm not saying that there isn't a market for good wood textures; but they should be something special coming from a freely distributed program.

Who needs wood workshop, when you are blessed with texturing powers?

@KeithC, I'm not going to start anything. Thanks for the link.

@everyone, Not every texture will be done in wood workshop, only about 8.

I have just purchased a copy of genetica 2.5 standard license. It took a huge chunk out of my birthday money. As did Torque (remove that name if needed). So expect some new textures soon.

It's an extremely good program, as soon as I received my serial I tried it out (and still am). I think I will produce nice textures, so far it was worth the money.

Hmmm...... It seems that I have seen a Pack like this floating around here somewhere.

I think the textures look ok but you should take a little time to learn the variations of genetica before you produce a pack of any kind. With the right understanding of the software and all the functions available you can produce very unique textures that would be hard to reproduce even with generating software. I suppose what I am trying to say is if you took the time to learn about cast shadows, 3 point perspective, and have a good idea of how somthing should look in the real world it will give you the ability to produce textures that people want. What I do is generate the base texture and pattern in genetica to save time, then put it in to my favorite paint program and to the shading and perspectives. Good luck with your ventures.

I do not mind your attempt at the wood pack. I feel very confident in my abilities and I like a little comp now and then. Good Luck with it.

I'm not necessarily competing. If people own both packs the will have almost enough segment textures for a whole game! And with your deal they will have nine more models for almost free!
