Dark GDK / I can't control framerates?

I set the framerate to 120.. it stays at 60... I set it to fast sync, it stays at 60... ideas?

Intel Pentium 4 3.40 Ghz HT, 1.5 GB RAM, Nvidia Geforce 6800, 19" Dell CRT Monitor ... I need to upgrade ^-^

or, locked to your monitor's rate, I cant remember which
my lcd does 60hz so im locked at 60 max

AFAIK, the maximum FPS is locked to the current refresh rate of the monitor. I'm at 60fps here (1680x1050@60Hz LCD monitor), but it used to be 85fps on my old CRT (1280x960@85Hz).

60 is perfect
the human eye cant tell any difference above 24-30 fps. nothing to worry about.

CR is right, you can adjust you game timings to be equally running on 60fps or more.

If game is not FPS dependent, it could be on 150fps and drop to 60fps without someone noticing. At least on DBPro.

I'd say 60 is JUST fine (or there wouldn't be any LCD monitors out there).

When you create a game, you want the game to work with everybody, and not everybody has a monitor that can go above 60hz.

Just like CattleRustler said, the human eye can't tell the difference anywhere above 30 fps.

1-4 fps - MAJOR lag
5-7 fps - lag but still can get around
8-16 fps - good quality
17-24 - almost perfect
24-30 - no lag at all (meets "standards")
30+ - exceeds "standards" (in other words perfect)

Most games like to keep their fps a steady 30 (based on what I've played) because any monitor you find nowadays support 30+ fps. 30 frames per second is the closest you can get without experiencing some sort of lag.

It's actually 72+ FPS that the eye can't tell the difference. 60 is good for games (over twice the FPS than movies). The reason why 24-30 is okay is because the eye/brain will piece together frames so you perceive fluid motion. Any slower and you can easily identify the different states per frame.

Yea, the eye will see the difference from 30 to 60 fps.. Just try to play Counter-Strike 1.6 and first lock it at 30 , then try locking fps at 101...

Google : motion blur or something, dont remember atm.

I don't think so. My FPS stayed the same in windowed and fullscreen.
