Try the help files within Max, They are very detailed and will give you a good grounding.

no tut installed - doh....

select your object -> goto modifier rollout -> select either uvw map or uvw unwrap (map if no auto maps applied) -> from the new list/modifier (unwrap uvw) under parameters select edit....

a new window will pop open - from that point you can change/move the uv map layout of the model, experiment with selecting faces, vertex, pelt mapping, etc...

under tools (in that new window) there is a option to render template which you can save the map then later open in your paint program to paint the texture(s)...

there is a lot more to it, I am just giving you the basics of how to get started and how to render the map for texturing...

Of course there's the obvious question; why would you spend a couple grand on a program when you don't even understand uv mapping yet? 99% of the time when people dont have the tuts, they have an illegal version .

That's no excuse. I'm still in high school and I'm making stuff like this

with free software.

There's no need to illegally download expensive software hoping it will make you a better modeller. It's better to get a free/cheap modeller and learn the basics of modelling in general than try to jump right in with 3ds max or Maya and think you'll be an instant pro.

You'd better hope a mod doesnt see that or you'll be permanently banned from these forums.

I'm a kid too, that doesn't mean I go and download 3ds max illegaly. I use Blender just like Venge.

You could also use the XSI mod tool - which is a free version of professional software - Softimage XSI.

Why? are you planning on going into the industry? Because if your not, there is no point in you even using 3D Max, its pointless!

Get Blender or some thing else and learn it, like you need to learn 3D Max.
