Well, two days, no screenshots.

No no no, don't cry. FtC is taking a little break. I've been so caught up with schoolwork, I've barely enough time to work on the game.

Don't worry though; I'm plenty happy because (this is slightly off-topic) in The Sims 2 Deluxe (which is TS2 plus TS2 Nightlife) Steven Montgomery and Valerie Grant just got married and are expecting. So, don't throw a fit because of no FtC; your Uncle Monty is on the job!

On a much FPSC-related note, I've just downloaded Stamina's MP, the one with the ladders and all. I'm sure the ladders will fit in nicely in level 1. FtC is back on track, so be alert!

Well, I'd thought that FtC needed a bump, and it got one.

I may be uploading a few screens today, maybe, maybe not.

Yeah, heh.

I just researched 'rebel' and 'insurgency' a few seconds ago, and I came up with some interesting stuff.

The game begins in a warehouse. The SWAT team has busted in, and your team escaped, accidentally forgetting you. As they fly to an abandoned building in a helicopter, they shout for you to meet them there. You have to fight your way through the warehouse and look for a hidden tunnel system that leads to the building. You're under fire, and as you grab your assault rifle, you figure that this job ain't gonna be easy...

I may need some voice acting, my questions will be asked later. All I need currently is Clarke's voice, which should sound gravelly and sorta deep (not high-pitched; sort of in the middle). All I need you people to do is post a download of a voice sample saying "I'm Vincent Clarke; fear me". If your voice is selected, then more voices will be asked for and selected.

EDIT: First mission scenario edited.

Hre's a screen of the official level 1, which is set in a long, underground passageway used by the insurgents, or so-called "American terrorists". The military is searching the tunnels with guard dogs, so be alert.

Pic #1: The way out is blocked, if only I had a knife... (I'll put a ladder there, this level was just made 5 minutes ago)

Pleae rate x/10 on the screen.

@ Snipesoul and gunn3r: thanks for the comments.
For the next level, which is set in a destroyed building, I will trying to replicate this screenshot from the game BLACK; I hope the mods don't mind.

@ Mods: If you want me to take down the screenshot, please post saying so. Thanks in advance.

Yeah, BLACK's awesome. The Tivliz Asylum level is pretty hard, though.

Let's get back on topic before the mods noob-slap us...

wouldn't it be better if, they didn't forget you, as that sounds pretty lame for a swat team, they sent you down to the basement to check for an exit route, when you get cut off, so you then have to use exit you found to make it safety?

Quote: "hidden tunnel system that leads to the building"

sounds a bit too planned and too much of a coincidence to me, maybe something a bit less......i don't know how to put it.....coincidental (using coincidence twice in one sentence! ahh my vocabulary sucks today).

And also, didn't you say you weren't going to change the story line?

looks a bit ordinary in the screenies, and your level design gives me the impression that you want to give the player alot of space to move around in, thats great except it doesn't look that realistic, nor does it look that good if im honest, try using smaller rooms (maybe not for the warehouse but definitely for the office.) and then you can use fewer entities to take up the space. Also i think you need to place your entities a bit further apart to fill up the rooms more.

Well that my two cents, enjoy!?!?!

I certainly took that into account. Thanks for the comments.

Quote: "Oh, by the way, are you still in need of voice acting?"

Yes, actually. If you want, you can voice either one of these characters (I prefer you do one, I doin't want to overwork you):
-Vincent Clarke
-Soldier 1
-Soldier 2
-Soldier 3

That's the list of voices I need for this level.

Okay, the one thing I hate about game making is the level plans! For example, I need help for figuring out what level 1 and 2 should be. I've got an idea--I'll hold a poll, and say the number you want; 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5.
Here are the choices:
1. Warehouse
2. Destroyed building
3. Underground tunnels
4. Bank heist
5. Office

Just say either 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5. You can choose a maximum of two choices. I'll tally them and see which one wins, alright? The voting begins...(checks watch) now!

4-5 (Plus the accompaning story possibility)

Vincent finishes his work day by going to the bank like he usually does every Thursday afternoon. The teller behind the desk greets him, just like every week, but something seems a little different. She suddenly stops in the middle of her sentence to look at two men entering the bank armed with 9mms. Vincent tells the teller to trip the silent alarm and wait for the cops as he pulls his own 9mm out of his pocket. He chases after the two robbers as they head into a nearby office complex.

How about the robbers be from a rival insurgent group, which is similar to Allies v. Axis. If you or anyone else can make retextures of the male civillian, but wearing a suit, that'd be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, CoZ.

Currently, polls are:
4 & 5: 100%

During the polls, when and if others vote, then the percentage will go down. It may or may not exceed 100.

Or you can make it to where the robbers are part of the gang, and Vincent gets curious as to how such a widely known gang could fail a bank robbery that easily...

Or sometime in the level, a cell phone call will say something about "a sleeveless man with a 9mm killing our guys" or something like that.

Well, then.

I guess level 1 will be a bank. Level 2 is up to you people. There is now a sixth choice: 6. Back alley(s)

You may choose only ONE; it may be 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6. The back alleys could be the rival insurgent army's base, maybe.

I think that you will get more of a response from this thread if you leave the decision making up to the game designer - which in this case is you and you show us some more screenies, not to sound harsh but for a could couple of pages we have been discussing the game levels but not actually doing anything else.

now my advice would be take the bull by the horns and make a decision about
A)Your story
B)Your Level Layout
C)Your content (models etc..)

It just seems to me that your looking elsewhere for inspirations when actually you have the ideas already you just get bored of them(or so it seems). Now this is not supposed to be offensive or start a flame war, it's just its supposed to be helpful, i just seriously thing you should get down and dirty with the story/layout stage and show some impressive progress other wise you will end up with this thread dying off....

I really hope that does not happen as i would love to see this actually turn into something really nice. It can if you just stick with one story line, what i would do is wright it out on word and then look at what you have written and think if you are happy with, if you are then stick with that one and only change smaller plot things that are to do with layout. If your not happy with it keep trying until you see something that really makes you want to make the game. Then you will have the motivation to keep working.

Hope this isn't seen as harsh

You should probably take the bank out of the list of options for the second level...

Me again with an idea... (I've been on a roll recently. I mean 2 in two days! )
I would go with six, and I have a story for reasoning.
As Vincent follows the armed robbers through the alleyways, they lead Vincent to their base, because they figure, what's one guy gonna do against an army? After you clear out the robbers, Vincent gets a phone call on his cell. Unknown name, unknown number. He picks it up, and at first there is nothing but silence. Then a calm, husky voice on the other end congratulates Vincent on his clean up of the rival army and offers him a position in the Waterfront gang.

You can take it from where you want after that.
If possible, would I be mentioned in the credits of this game?

@ Dr Parsnips: I will get down and dirty with FtC, and I'll try to work on the bank and alleys level.
@ gunn3r: Good idea, but Clarke could just refuse the phone call because he's a member of Caliber, the main insurgent army. But I like your idea, though. Maybe you could do Clarke's voice? Can you just post a .wav sample of him saying "Hello, whaddya want?" in a normal, but tough-sounding voice. The voice should be adult male.

Well, I just don't know why game dev is sometimes so hard. The story (about the resisitance war, not insurgent) is set in fictional Creekvale, Vermont. The two factions are battling over territory; who gets what neighborhood.

And the first level is still undecided, please help!

This does not belong in the showcase board. It belongs in the Game Theory board. You have shown screenshots, but what you are showcasing is your lack of persistence, and you're dependence on other people to basically make the game for you.

Please, go look at some similar games to what you want to make. Look at their stories. Don't rip them off, but get some inspiration. Don't ask other people to make warehouse scenes in FPSC because you don't know how they should look, you will basically copy them. Go google warehouse pictures, or go looking for warehouses with a camera for inspiration. Stop limiting your game to what you can make with MP3, that is not the way. Learn to make your own stuff, otherwise you will not make a very good game.

End of.

Well said. Right now he is going around in circles.

As Paul said. You can't make an MP3 especially with 20 levels. Learn to make custom entities and segments. No, don't say:

"I suck at it" or "I will dload stuff!"

These are generally your two answers everytime someone suggests that you use custom stuff. If you suck at it, practise makes perfect. Downloading is all good but if all of your content is dloaded thenit's no better than stock media. It just tells us you're too lazy to even attempt your own. All of the downloaded content such as Stamina's pack has been used countless times. Custom media brings something that the community hasn't seen before.

I have made games in FPSC but never released because bugs made this impossible for me. However, I attempted some retextures of entites and segments for my games creating a style that hadn't been seen before on FPSC. (I had never textured in my life.) It is extremely rewarding and NOT hard, just time consuming. If you can find the time to develop a game for "two years" as you said previously, I'm sure you can find a few hours to try making some new media.

Stciking with a Level, a Story, and so on is one of the hardest things to do, AI; so stick with it and stay with it, just say that there is no story only level's; design the level's then fit a Story to it, I use to do it and it came out nice, But I started to remember the story, and the game got screwed up.

I always say this: custom entities are not necessary. I don't understand why they just have to be used. It's ridiculous. And I will use other entities for my levels. An office won't have barrels and pipes everywhere! But the looking around thing and the pictures idea is a good one. I'll try and see what I can come up with. I may be very stupid to forget this one: planning.

I'm sorry if I offended anyone. There's a lot going on right now, and free time isn't a factor here sometimes. I'll try and do what you said (excluding the custom media, sorry folks) and see what I come up with. Thanks in advance,
~AI
