I know this is a stupid question but how do you set atmosphere. Right now I just have the demo and maybe that's the problem. I'm sure its something simple but I can't figure it out. Thanks in advance.

What do you mean by set the atmosphere? FPSC only has fog, and skyboxes. The rest will have to be done with lighting.

He means skyboxes. Sorry, but in the demo, you can't change the skybox.

...at least, i don't think so...

Well, ive heard people say things like "set the atmosphere to 0 to make it pitch black" and things like that. I want the level to be completly dark except where there are lights.

No that's ambience..... as in the general light level across the map.

When you finished your map go to File/Build Game. -> Level Settings tab -> Global Script (Click edit button) A new window will appear. Here you can change Ambiance Level.
