I only have 1 PC but I am in middle of coding a large game and I really want to make it multiplayer (the idea will work better that way). Am I realistically gonna be able to do this without a network at home to test out if its working, etc? Is there anyway to 'connect' to your own PC to check if the right data, etc is being passed to where it should be?

yes u can, u can connect to yaself on the internet using you net IP address, or you can connect without going on the internet thru the loopback address 127.0.0.1

i have done this to test my own code and it works well enuff, what you need to do tho is to run ya game in windowed mode tho and switch between the windows, the drawback is ya system slows down with more than one instance of the program running. i have had up to 6 windows open like this (on both methods, thru the net or thru loopback) and besides the slowdown (which might just be my junk pc!) there were no problems

optic blast! megablast! have a blast!!

You can, but both the client and the server will run slower than a very slow thing indeed.

Just use IP address 127.0.0.1 - this is a special IP address that is always local to you machine. As long as you've got any type of TCP/IP networking enabled on your machine (local network/dial-=up etc), this will work.

Oh, and run each app in windowed mode so you can see what is going on.

Thanks guys.

Unfortunately, I have decided to give up on making my game multiplayer....I think it is just beyond my capabilities at this moment....am pursuing it as a single player game now.

Will bear the 127.0.0.1 IP address in mind though
