I very much doubt it...

I've got a ASCIIToWide routine - might be worth doing a wide to ASCII converter...

Good news everyone! I really am THAT good...

Coyote, I *think* you can get japanese character sets with TEXT.

The SET TEXT FONT can be used with 1 or 2 arguments, the second being a 'charset' code. Try playing around with this value a bit - maybe try codepage values, or offsets.

This still only allows TEXT to print 255 character types at a time, but you should be able to switch the charset values to get different ranges.

I tried adding support for multiple character sets some time ago but I was only successful in implementing cyrillic.

The fundamental problem is that DBPro only supports UTF-8 characters (ie, one byte per character) and in order to display Japanese, Mandarin, Taiwanese, Arabic etc. you need to display UTF-16 characters (two bytes per character).

DBC does support UTF-16 however so that is one possibility - either that or use text images.

One thought - whilst doing a conversion to wide is no real problem, how on earth are you going to display it...

I just hope your wrong and that TEXT (and PRINT) can handle wide bytes.

No, they're 8-bit only.

I've been playing around, and I can't get it to work at all.

I wonder if it's down to the fact that DBPro is rendering the text instead of letting windows do it?

Possibly, although I thought that the DX text system can handle wide characters.

Not a very good picture is it ?

Anyhoo, I wont bother with a Unicode to Multibyte converter yet then - Multibyte characters are too annoying anyway.

Could a .dll be written to use the current DB font settings to create an image, perhaps in the clipboard or in an image number index, of the text ?

If you don't email details of the problem, it won't get fixed. Lee and Mike can either spend all their time scanning these forums, or code, not both.

You've got a better chance of a fix if you can also send example code in your email ... it might even be that the only problem is in the code you are using (or that I tried) and Lee can give us the correct way of coding it.

This is the problem which will become possible about a TEXT variable if not Char but wChar is supported.

DLL can treat UTF-16 by pointer. UTF-16 can be displayed by WIN32API. I have already tried.

UNICODE(UTF-16) wchar
UTF-8 char

I want you to solve.

I have challenged. DLL which draws a font on the BITMAP picture of DBPRO is made. A handle is obtained by GDI of WIN32API to BITMAP-POINTER, and a font is drawn.

If this is completed, the production similar to the beginning of movie Star Wars will be attained. And it is UTF-16 correspondence.

DarkBasicProfessional is wonderful.

The method of BITMAP does not work by failure continuation. I try DLL which indicates the Window by structure newly. Development environment is using the free Basic compiler "ActiveBasic3 (Japan)" PDF which wrote how to use in English in the near future is exhibited. Please look forward to it.
