I have just bought and put on my system Darkbasic Pro. I then upgraded it to v4.1

When I tried to put in my database program I was writing from DB v1.12, I hit some trouble.

First my menu system uses pasted images and their widths\co-ords to to work out if I am on a button or not. This was to cut the drain on the system (like sprites do). Also to allow text to go infront if I wanted.

Unfortuently when I ran the coding, I found that the pasted Bitmaps (loaded as images), appeared blotchy, fuzzy, blurred etc. This can be seen if you look closely at my pictures below. Is there a way to get round this, as the bitmaps on DB classic were clear crisp and very well done.

new menu

My next problem was the input. On DB classic, you had to turn off the background to see the input if you were in 3D mode. This does not appear to be the case with DB, but if you do not turn the background off, the menu system vanishes. Wehn the background is on, the text is very blurred. This can be seen below, and the word that is supposed to be there is "Mrs"
input

My last problem that is that the 3D object is now very dark instead of being nice and light, as you can see below
old skull

new skull

For those who think that they can solve this, I have a zip file of all the required files. When unzipped, all images should go into a sub folder called "images". The address is http://members.lycos.co.uk/doversubaquaclub/evidence/database.zip.

In testing, to click on a button, just use mouse and left-click. To alter details, press box next to detail for the input.

Thanks

When you are loading your images, add an extra ,1 to the command. That will stop DBPro anti-aliasing the images when they load.

Re the 3D skull problem

Is it a 3DS model converted to x? I had a problem like this read here:

http://www.darkbasicpro.com/apollo/view.php?t=11282&b=3

make a DB primitive next to skull and program a key to turn light 0 off/on. I found DB object was affected by light but my models weren't.

I do not know wether it is a .3Ds to .X, it was one that came with the orriginal DB classic

Any idea what to do about the Input problem? that is my main worry. For this database, it is importatn people are able to read what they are writing so that they can see whether they have made an error.

Thanks so far

The Input command in DBPro is really not very good and leaves a cursor trail behind it. I would strongly recommend writting your own.

Do you need some code to set you off?

Oh regarding the skull, it's either because the skull is .3ds (convert it to .x) or just the default light being set differently.

Either turn off the object sensitivity to lights if you aren't using them, or setup the default light as you would like it.

set object light objectNo,0
set object ambient objectNo,0

That coding would be really helpful

Thanks

Also, set the DBP resolution to the same as the desktop, otherwise it stretches 640x480, alternatively, set it to run in Full Screen Exclusive mode.

Do you want Windows menus in your DBP apps? - Get my plugin: http://snow.prohosting.com/~clone99/downloads/tpc_menus_103.zip
